Stephen Green and the Atheist Buses

Stephen Green, Director of Christian Voice, has complained to the Advertising Standards Agency, saying that the slogan on the Atheist buses - 'There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life' - breaks the ASA's codes on substantiation and truthfulness.

This is the same man who opposed the HPV vaccine on the grounds that it would encourage promiscuity (thereby leaving girls at risk of cervical cancer), who attempted to have Jerry Springer, the Opera, banned, and who was arrested for distributing anti-homosexual literature at a gay rally.

Ironically, this quote comes from Stephen Green.

'It is preposterous for the ASA to think they can outlaw Christian freedom of speech and free expression of opinion.'

Mmm ..... but it's not preposterous for him to wish to outlaw everybody else's right to freedom of speech and free expression of opinion, it seems.

Personally, I find people like Stephen Green to be not only incredibly arrogant, but tiresome in the extreme, and in some instances, positively dangerous. Nothing would ever induce me to deem anything such people have to say worthy of serious consideration, so my question is, do those who feel they are qualified to continually preach religion in an attempt to impose their will on everyone else do more harm than good to the cause they are championing - religion?

Err... just a minute ...... you've talked about spiritual entities, something ethereal with no name, and a distaste for men and women of the cloth, none of which apply to me or to my beliefs. Therefore you have misunderstood, and your 'point' amounted to no relevant point at all. Added to that you've aligned my beliefs to those of uneducated farming peasants, and to various tribes and clans, patently in yet another feeble attempt to undermine me. In truth, the only 'point' you were aiming at was starting another stupid argument for no good reason - just as you do on practically every thread you meet me on - and it's nothing more than petty, juvenile, pathetic nonsense. If you are feeling undermined by those statements, then perhaps you are too overly sensitive for the naked aggression that exists within R&S when beliefs are challenged, ridiculed and when in particular the believers are globally labelled as dim-witted in-breds on a daily basis.

In any event, there really is no need to be nasty and resort to name calling.

As for the naked aggression that exists within R&S, that I can accept in intelligent and sensible debate, but that is something that, from you, isn't forthcoming where I'm concerned. Additionally, I find it most odd that you happily joke with a man who holds similar, and doubtless stronger views than mine, and yet one word from me (addressed to someone else in this instance) produces the, now, regular onslaught from you. It's patently obvious that you have a very real problem with me - and I can assure you that my assessment on that is shared by others here - so I am confident that my perceived over-sensitivity is certainly not accountable.

I have no objection to anyone challenging my beliefs, but I would hope to be challenged in a sensible, polite, and intelligent manner. The aggression and rudeness in your posts is both unnecessary and unwarranted.

Don't put words into my mouth, Octavius. I didn't say 'all my friends think the same'. I simply informed you, for your own benefit, that your aggression towards me hasn't gone unnoticed. However, take it or leave it. You have a problem with me, and it is your problem, so continuing portraying yourself in whatever light you think fit. It matters not to me.
