Why the hatred against religion?

Please, please, please I don't want to hear the usual ranty arguments against the existence of God or afterlife, I just want to know why the hatred against religious belief. Nobody today is forced to go to church and the Church no longer sets the standards or forms the opinions of our society, so what's the problem? Why the anti-religious posters on the sides of buses? Why does this ant-religious sentiment continue at all?

I know many Christians including a parish priest who read Harry Potter and have seen all the films. Its a non-argument.
Ah, Gormless, as if by occult magic. Piff puff pouff

I do stand up for what I believe in, but you do tend to use the Caesar / Jesus line rather a lot, it is becoming as cliched as the 'religion causes wars' line that I am surprised hasn't appeared here yet.
Herodotus said that the Greeks invented homosexuality as it was "they who taught the Persians how to have sex with young boys."
Was he right? Were there really no gays in Persia until the Greek invasion, or did they just teach them about foreplay (perhaps teach em buy them dinner first) or maybe they introduced KY jelly, who can tell, but, "The Histories" is a key part of our understading of the ancient world with also a lot of "Godly"(?) interventions, if he's wrong about all that, what else is he wrong about?
There does appear to be (to me at least) a theme developing with the non-theists to deprive people of the lessons and information that they utilised to draw their conclusions.
Why is this?
Are they afraid that they'll draw a different conclusion to their own?
Or is it just that they happen to believe they're right?
Octavious, I wish you would stand up and be counted rather than wishy-washy non-committal flannel. Yes, I use the Caesar/Jesus example a lot, because it is hugely valid. Do you ever wander off and read alternatives to the Gospels? Do you have a faith?

Matthew, Mark, Luke. John, (yes and Q) are 4 witnesses for starters. Why is their evidence so lightly brushed off? Who even needs Josephus? The answer is simple - because the antagonists don't just disbelieve, they hate Christians and anything vaguely biblical with a savage sneering Dawkinesque vengeance. They will be happy on their deathbeds with their confident assumption of annihilation.

Nice contribution noguts.

A rather erudite assessment, I shall treasure that Gormless. Than Q.
You could try doing it a little less, especially on serious topics. Turd.

Sorry Octavius, that rather unhappy timing of responses might be misunderstood. It was knobby I was calling a turd. 4th time this evening, not bad.
Thats quite alright, I already knew who the turd was.

Octavius, when religion affects the ability to make rational, sane, judgements, then it certainly isn't a non-argument. We've discussed this on this forum, and there are people here who won't read Harry Potter - and not because they are children's books.

Take a look at this.

And how about this?

and if you want more, there's plenty on google.

Sad.

Why the hatred against humanity?

And why do you reject an examination of the underlying cause? Irrational belief in an impossible god and the glorification of death over life does nothing to alleviate the effects of religious domination over and terrorism against reason. If you have chosen to believe that religion does not continue to be a force to be reckoned in the 21st century you have quite obviously chosen as well to bury your head in the sand.

Think about it.
My very own grandmother turned MY tv over when MY children were watching Harry Potter because she felt so strongly about it conflicting with her faith.

That aside the only people outside of my family ever to preach to me about what to believe have been athiests or Jehovas witnesses. Both about equally as welcome to bang on at me as a fork in the eye.
I think you depressed a sore nerve with atheist's, they sure not happy it seems. I like you believe what your saying, but you should know by know that greed is the new faith, talk about money and everyone listens. My perception is that as long as it exists its a problem, religion that is, as its not accepted. Will christianity be around in another 50years?
Naomi, of course there will be those that wont want to do or watch certain things that conflict with their beliefs, no doubt you will rattle on about JWs and blood in a bit.

My nieces attend an Independent fee paying Roman Catholic school, and the teachers organised the hiring out of a cinema for two classes to go and watch one of the Harry Potter films all together. I went with them as well it was a great afternoon out.

They didnt see any conflict, and neither do I.

Goods, nice to see you. I have to agree, I get more preaching from atheists than I do from my Parish Priest, and in the last 5 years, only one pair of JWs knocked at my door.
You are a Subject of the Queen who is the Head of the Established {YES Established} Church. Her Bishops, unelected ,vote in Her Parliament. Don't you hate that ?
Octavius

How do you know Mathew, Mark, Luke and John wrote those accounts?

Because their names happen to be at the top of your particular bible?

These attributions come from people like Irenaeus 150 years or so later.

Josephus is contemporary and strangely enough he doesn't think to mention strange goings on like carpenters rising from the dead, walking on water, turning water into wine or even the massacre of all the new born in Bethlehem.

Funny that, you'd think it would be worthy of mention wouldn't you?
