Why not ask the Vicar presiding?

It's just for information, baby not due till novemeber - but good suggestion.
Ok, plenty of time to plan ahead then! Good luck with that.

I would make enquiries at the church you hope to have the service. They will be used to such questions so I wouldnt worry too much about asking.

Its just that some Vicars may permit them as a 3rd GP, providing you already have two who are CoE, another Vicar might say you only need one CofE, and your Jewish friend would be welcomed. Another very strict Vicar might say it is just not permissible according to the rule book

The role of the sponsor is not to speak for the person being baptised, but to formally present them for baptism and to help them in their growth as Christians after they have been baptised. There need to be at least two and preferably three sponsors and they are chosen by the candidates for baptism themselves. Like Godparents they need to be baptised and normally also confirmed.

All that godparents need to do is remember birthdays, and divi up for the school fees.
The other thing to consider is whether your jewish friend would want to do this, or is happy to promise and fulfil the requirements of being a Christian godparent.
