A question of faith?
26 Answers
Why is it always Chrisianity that's torn to shreds on here. We live in a multi- faith society and yet the many other faiths don't seem to get discussed in the same way. Just wondering, that's all.

I reckon we've taken it for granted, Ok we are a multifaith society now in the UK, but Christianity is a pretty laid back religion we are loving giving and caring who will listen and make allowances. Unlike Muslims who I've found to be pushy and demanding, they are extremely defensive about their beliefs and will brook no argument against their religion their methods of punishment and treatment of women is archaic. I think it is high time that the Christian faith was revitalised by ministers and congregations alike, because the Muslim faith is strong and they will surely take over before long.
my guess is that people rebel against the faith they've grown up with more than against ones they don't know well.
I think Mormons count as Chrstians (though some other Christians don't). They believe Christ died, rose again to save us, and will return to rule on earth, and those seem to be the fundamental Christian beliefs.

The answer lies in the question. When you cut to the chase it's neither a matter of Christianity, nor religion as a whole which are only manifestations, symptoms of a larger all encompassing disease. Faith is the common denominator of all that is evil in the world, whether it be faith in ones favoured God, faith in the system, faith in ones self or worst of all, faith in reason.
To embrace reason is to dispense with faith of any kind and in any thing. Reason has provided us with all that is good in the world and when applied to the development of a sound, rationally based philosophy, enables us to determine what good is, what it's not, and why the good should and must be preferred to and allowed to flourish over evil.
To believe in oneself is not a matter of faith but of necessity. To earn ones right to exist is to take ownership of oneself by acknowledging responsibility for ones own life and destiny. Rationality is not a gift from some imaginary overseer of reality but a choice to realise ones potential to arrive at ones evolutionary destiny and become a fully functional, happy, healthy human being.

Judaism, Christianity and Islam are the major factions of the same religion traditionally believed to have been conceived by a schitzophrenic called Abraham (or Ibrahim for another faction).
The philosiphical tenents are laid down by people who heard voices in their head.
Those who perceive Christian religions as laid back and making allowances need to get out more. History is littered with attrocities committed in the name of the Christian God and it continues today. The precedents justifying violence and bloodshed are clearly present in the foundations of all Abrahamic religions.
Promoting Christianity is not a solution to the rise of Islam. We need to counter religion in its entirity, not promote one strain of this blight on humanity.

We mostly come from a christian background which means most of us don't know a great deal about the Koran, the Bhagavata or Buddhavacana
However we regularly lay into the old testament and God in general.
You can take it as read that in this latter case the criticism applies to all the Abrahamic religions and probably a lot of the others too.
Do you think that perhaps part of the issue is that when you see threads like "Why doesn't God heal amputees and I suggest God is sadistic that you automatically think that Christianity due to your cultural background?

I will always tear chrstianity to shreds and it needs to be done!!! christianity serves no useful purpose on this planet, I hasten to add that I think the same way about all God based religeons but I know very little about these other religeons so I choose not to comment on them in any detail. Try reading the bible and read af the bloodshed and brutality and torture of innocent people and the huge support of slavery, it is vile and inhuman!! you either support this garbage or you dont, I choose not to support or believe in this barbaric faith and sleep very well with no fears of where I will be going after death. I dont need a crutch to lean on or a bible to tell me how to behave in a caring, honest and loving manner. I also hasten to add that I was brought up in a christian family and many of my family members are Salvation Army officers to this day.
RATTER15, Adam and Eve have bellybuttons because God foresaw the anguish of living in the garden of Eden without as much as an ipod or computer to occupy them, hence he gave them something to play with when they became bored. As they were naked there was not a lot of navelfluff to remove so they became interested in a certain apple tree, but that's another story.
