I have read some religious posts on here regarding Karma after you are dead, but is there any truth in Karma whilst alive?

Not always no....but more likely. Being nice doesn't mean being soft.
I agree.
explain being nice to the good samaritans killed every year ...
Thats different though.
why? didn't bring them much niceness ...
I'm talking about day to day life. What you're saying is a rarity. Also, how do you know the good samaritan was a nice person? He/she might have been nasty behind closed doors.
but they might not have been and that's my point. These sayings are such a generalisation.
True...but I haven't said 'what goes around comes around' nor have I said that I believe in Karma.

I believe in being nice to everyone.....if they prove to be not worthy of my niceness I would keep them at arms length.
I dont believe in Karma but like Naomi and Ummmmm have said, if you are nice and kind, gentle etc around other people, you will find that people react the same around you. that has nothing to do with Karma, that is just human nature, generally speaking.
It gives you better luck because people warm to you easier....
Unless in defence it be don't forget the rule of three.... what ever you send out into the world will come back to you threefold... tends to make you stop and think before acting badly.....
I just think there is just too much meaness and mean people in this world to avoid receiving any less in return just because you endeavour to be nice to people. It makes no difference anyway.

I could spend a month trying to be more nice to people than I generally am and the following month an ignorant Little Bustard to people just like I encounter regularly and not feel as if my life is any different.

Just for the record I do not go out of my way to upset people (well maybe for mischief on here sometimes lol) and genuinely believe people in the real world regard me as "nice".
The tsunami destroyed any thoughts I may have about karma or any possible god.
Hopkirk did you lose someone?
Kirk, if you really think about it though, you can go through a whole day of generally pleasant experiences, but if one person is nasty to you, he's the one that upsets your equilibrium and consequently he's the one you'll remember at the end of the day.
No, just shocked.
you're right Naomi but on the same hand I recognise when someone has gone out of their way to be nice.
Sure there is. David Bowie even had a song about it; Karma man.
Kirk, yes you do, but that nasty person overrides all that in your mind, and sticks with you, doesn't he? He's the one you have to beat. Don't let the xxxxxxxx get you down!

Hopkirk, I went to Sri Lanka very shortly after the Tsunami, and the devastation was far worse than anything any news report or film footage could have possibly prepared me for. However, the main streets were strewn with bunting, which seemed odd to me. When I asked why, I was told that because the Pope had just died, the people of Sri Lanka wanted to show their sympathy to the Catholics of the world. And so amid all that death and suffering and indescribable devastation, those people still thought of others. That's good Karma.

Incidentally, for me God isn't an issue.
There's definitely Road Karma, i.e. if you let someone out of a junction (for example) someone elsewhere on your journey will do the same for you.
