I often hear people say, (usually while discussing religion, spirits, ghosts etc.)
so why are we here, what is the point if there is no afterlife?

Does there have top be a point?

I see it: we are born, we live , we die, end of!

Why does there have to be a reason?

Our thoughts and beliefs can bring meaning to our existance.... once basic survival needs are met... trying to make the world better in whatever small way we can seems a reasonable thing...benefits in the here and now...not necessarily to have a better afterlife...
We are very fragile. We see our selves as sophisticated, intelligent and in some cases chosen.

So how can we die? Death is feared, so if you believe that something comes after it brings hope to the living and succour to the bereaved.

The fact that there has never been one verifiable fact to support an after life won't stop the Thiest's but having said that if it stops them being afraid...
There is no purpose to our lives. As you say, we live and die, end of. But while we're here the line from the bible: 'Do to others what you would have them do to you' seems a basis for a decent, humane, philosophy.
Our purpose is to have a jolly good time, enjoy ourselves, get trolled, and live by the seaside.
Get "trolled" ?

LOL

That's AB for you !

I meant ... get "trolleyed"

=0)
If God didn't mean us to get wrecked, He would never have given us Smirnoff.

I know the answer Keyplus: "we are born, we live , we die, end of!"

Where in my post does it say I'm worried?

The subject can still be debated, I'm interested in other peoples views on this subject.

I promise you nothing about death bothers me in the slightest, I'm in no rush to die, I'm still enjoying my life!

I totally agree with that link Waldo, basically life is what you make it!
And you have all of my best wishes to go with the enjoyment of your life.
did you really mean purpose instead of reason? Make the most it of however you want to as long as its legal and doesn't hurt anybody.
"Our purpose is to have a jolly good time, enjoy ourselves, get troll(i)ed, and live by the seaside "

i agree with that. except the bit about the seaside. too much seagull poo on your chips for my liking.
Does anyone else see a man with top hat and his trousers down standing on a pig's head in the world?
I don't, but it depends where you're looking and what you're smoking, Mibs. Tell me those things and I might.

Waldo, It's your link, why you you old trouble maker you. Click to enlarge the 'O' in 'WORLD'. I would have edited my post but you know how that goes.

As for what I might or might not have been smokin' . . . At this stage in the game I've pretty much mastered achieving the effect without need of the cause. But if you insist a hit or two of Old Toby will do.
We are here to learn. That is the point, in my opinion. It follows that this learning has to have a purpose for the future.
Ah - got you, Mibs. I honestly hadn't a clue what you were on about!
I'm still not exactly sure myself Waldo. In spite of extensive research I find myself persistently remaining amongst life's most puzzling unsolved mysteries.
