You start us off, then............
LMAO "a god nailed to a stick".

Christianity also INVENTED "Satan" ;-)
Believe what you like...just don't try to 'save' me!

Actually Answerprancer, I think that you will find that Satan was around a long time before christianity (read the Old Testament) but I know what you mean.

who's trying to save you noraq and from what?
There are indeed better philosophies to live by. Those philosophies that reject irrational, faith based, evidence free belief in any form of supernatural being would be a very good start.

And to hear one such follower of a non-existant supernatural being sneering and belittling the followers of another faith based superstition as being gullible is both ironic and amusing.
Question Author
it is both ironic and amusing lazygun that you make such assumptions.
Its both ironic and amusing that people who do not believe in a god or follow a religion feel that they somehow qualify to mock other peoples beliefs.......
Question Author
how is asking a question or making a statement 'mocking'?
A bit touchy there arnt we?
When you say that people have "fallen for this" you ARE mocking people...ok you dont believe in god, big deal get over it, nobody cares, perhaps instead of belittling people why dont you bestow upon us your wealth of wisdom? Give us some examples of your "much better philosophies" that enriched your life........
Question Author
I didnt say that people have fallen for this. I ASKED why do people fall for this.
A small difference that might have passed you by.
Well tell us please, have people fallen for this?

err, yes

you're boring me now craftypig, g'night
So in your opinion people have "fallen" for it, therefore I suggest you read my previous post. You ARE mocking people, you are implying that they are easily taken in. You insult the intelligence of people from every walk of life. You are no better than someone who says that not to believe in a god is pointless. Thanks for your pearls of wisdom, the alternative philosophies that you have given us to consider are indeed real gems, I'm sure that everybody will cherish them........oh wait a sec, you didn't actually offer us anything of value though did you, ah well maybe next time, night natas liah, sorry for boring you, I will pray for forgiveness. Wonder who will be listening.......
Because of the wealth of historical evidence on this subject.

If Jesus wasn't nailed to a stick and resurrection, then Christianity has no rational basis.

Fortunately, there's a lot of early contemporary Christian and non-Christian sources that say he was crucified. And I believe there's a good case that even without the Christian sources to say he was resurrected (if you believe in the resurrection you're a Christian by definition).

The non-christian evidence says that 2000 years ago a man called Jesus lived and was crucified and a few days later his tomb was found empty. First generation Christians started claiming that he had been resurrected. They believed this enough to die for it. Remember these were people who were in a position to know 100% whether or not Jesus rose from the dead, they wouldn't have died if they knew it wasn't true. So, you have to concede that at the very least early Christians believed this to be true.

On top of the non-Christian evidence, there's also the 4 gospels (or biographies of Jesus' life) found in the bible. These can be dated very early to the events in question, and many historians have claimed that even with conservative estimates of the dating it would be unprecedented for legend to spring up in the short time between the events and when they were written. There were other Christian writings at the time that have not been added to the New Testament, for example the Gospel of the Hebrews says similar things

A book I found helpful is called "The Case for Christ", it was written by a former Athiest laywer who became a Christian due to the evidence. It recounts his investigation. It's good because it's at a level everyone can read and understand, though they're higher level stuff if you want to read it.
I've also posted a youtube link about the extra biblical evidence there is.

If you want to investigate the historical evidence, I daresa

pray all you want craftypig, no one will be listening. Oh, wait a minute, why dont you pray for an end to world hunger or a cure for cancer or the return of peoples limbs that have been lost during war?
Thats right, it aint going to happen is it? For all of your prayers it wont happen.
As I said, you bore me.
G'night.
(and dont bother with the forgiveness bit, I dont need it now)

potterfan, what a croc of cr@p.
Been debunked many a time.
Learn a bit of history first eh?
I think you will find that there is no claim that Jesus was (a) god, only that his father was one. This may be a moot point but he is never quoted as having claimed divine status - at least so far as I am aware. However, there are a lot of people who make their own deductions, in addition to numerous misinformed statements about "fact" being bandied about by the faithful, especially the born-again evangelical types who like to feel good and influence others. A lot of stuff that is said does not stand up to scrutiny even within the framework of the scripture.
Sorry Natas Liah. I should have made it clearer., that is my response to Religious fanatics.
