No, of course they’re not, but I’ve had at least six of these in the past week, and normally I leave them to go to answerphone but with Mrs A in hospital I HAVE to answer the landline, just in case.

For those with a bt landline with no call blocker you just dial 1572 when call ends to block that number.

We were getting loads of these calls from Amazon too around 4 a day it was, but quiet from them at the moment. Will be back to the ones from visa or sky again soon I expect. When I do happen to answer one of these calls it is nice when you argue with them and they put the phone down on you instead of the other way around.

Allen, you can get caller ID (I haveit) from Virgin,but call blocking is usually a feature of the phone.Having said that call blocking is not effective in stopping nuisance calls as they frequently change their phine number.

The way I reduced all unwanted calls to about 1 a month is to not speak or hang up or switch off the phone but let them talk to themselves for 5 minutes. Until you switch of they can't phone out to bother anybody else and you quickly get your name off their list and it doesn't get sold on. it's worked well for me so try it.

allen - it's a fairy story anyway; the caller terminates the call (they're paying for it), so leaving your phone off the hook only has the effect of stopping you receiving what might be an important call ie, it does not tie-up the caller's telephone.
