A couple of times recently I've had a message request on Instagram just after I've posted a photo. The name means nothing to me, though I admit I'm a bit intrigued. If i answered it, and it turned out to be a scam or similar, would it be easy to delete ?

It's easy delete, don't open and just block if you don't know them or want to know them or have them follow you
making people feel intrigued is what spammers and scammers rely on.
Im afraid anybody who pops up on anything as a friend request, even if they have a mutual friend, if I don't know them, or want to know them, they get blocked and/ or removed
This befriending strangers on social media amuses me. If you were walking down the road and a random person came up to you asking to be your friend would you say 'sure why not?' 'Here, have a look at my family photos and BTW I work at B&Q.......' no you would'nt.

I'm sure you're all correct. I certainly never accept any Friend invitations anywhere else, but I vaguely sort of hoped that on Instagram it might lead to a chat about photographs, which is why I wondered whether it would be easy to delete if it turned out to be a scam or whatever. Common sense rules. Thank you everyone for the advice and comments.
It would be easy to delete, it's usually links in messages where the trouble lies. I think Instagram is the type of thing that attracts comments from strangers, personally I wouldn't worry about at least reading them. My daughter set up an account for me on my phone just to post a few pictures of my cats. I had about 5 followers within an hour, cat freaks mainly :-)
