For the past couple of days I have been getting phonecalls asking me to press another key. The thing is the caller does not wait until I have replied to let them know if I am the person they wish to speak to.
Should I call Santander to check if this is an honest request or assume it is a scam.

Assume scam
scam
It's an automated call, so assume it's a scam. If it were a genuine call, it would be a real live person willing to have a conversation.
Search the number in google - if its calling a lot of people then it will show up
Always worth checking the phone number here

We have been Santander customers for many years and never once have I had a phone call from them. I would assume it is a scam
If they need to communicate with you they could post you a letter or send a secure message on internet banking.

If I received a call claiming to be from a bank I wouldn't press any buttons as this can encourage more calls.
Its very rare that banks call you at home. Assume Scam, if at all suspicious about any phone call relating to your finances say you will only deal with it in the branch in person talking face to face with a member of staff.
