Ageing players either injury prone/past their best (or both) - Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Carrick, Giggs

Younger players not good enough quality compared to when United were top dogs - Rafael, Jones, Smalling, Cleverley, Evans, Wellbeck, Hernandez

(Jones and Smalling are supposed to be Uniteds future central defensive partnership, if that's the case and they are good enough why are they both constantly played out of position - Jones in centre midfield and Smalling at right back)?

Expensive signings who flopped - Nani, Young, Kagawa

I can see ManU 'doing a Liverpool' - years as top dogs followed by years of mediocrity

As a kid growing up in the 70s everyone at school supported Liverpool as they were up there with all the UEFA and FA cup wins. No-one gave a hoot about Man U or Chelsea.

Well said Steve, it is obvious to all that the wheels have come off at United but I never fell the need to take the p!ss out of Leeds for eg: when it happened to them (on-going I know).

Joe does have some valid points though, and it is heartbreaking watching them go that way but no-one knows what the future holds?

I also have memories in the 70/80's and classmates etc jumped on the Liverpool bandwagon.

steve think most of the threads are just about jealously going back to the seventies i went to old trafford for a match and was queuing for over 2 hours before kick off when we got near ( about 30 or 50 people in front of us ) the bell started ringing and then the gates shut

there was thousands of people round the ground locked out the train was pulling up from oxford full of fans

warwick road was full of thousands of people trying to get to the ground

when we eventually got on chester road the buses were full of fans still bringing them to the ground from aytown street and other places

we had to wait while the police managed to sort things out with the buses to do a shuttle service before we could get back to piccadilly

heading back to piccadilly our bus driver stopped the bus a couple of times to tell other bus drivers with buses packed of fans to turn round because the ground was full

if the stadium which then held 63,500 was a 75,000 stadium like today it would have been full and still locked out thousands of fans who wanted to see the match

all for a team that was not top of the league or winning anything -)

ps, after we got to town we got another bus and ended up in the club near home for a few pints, a couple of the lads that we drank with were bus drivers on the football specials they never stopped all afternoon -)

Some fans are very fickle,back in '78-80 when Cloughie was a god and Forest were the kings of Europe there'd be six or seven bus loads going to away games now they get a mini bus.Mind you it's nice to see among the die hards old boys who were Following Forest then are still going and often taking their grrandkids wih them.

never liked the scoreboard end you use to get a lot of the ones that liked a drink coming in the ground late and then pushing there way down in the crowd

This Manchester United team is so bad, and yet 9 months ago virtually the same players won the Premiership by a mile, beating:

Manchester City by 11 points
Chelsea 14 by points
Arsenal 16 by points
Tottenham Hotspur by 17 points
Everton 26 by points
Liverpool 28 by points.

Just how bad were those teams last season to be beat by the dross players in the OPs question?

I don't think it's got anything to do with the players, if Fergie was still in charge this season Man Utd would be in the top four.

Moyes was never going to step in and carry on where Fergie left off, Fergies speech to the fans at his final match was basically telling them they've got to stick with him.

Saying that it's good to see them struggling and Arsenal, City and Chelsea not winning every game
