have won a penalty if he'd been in Rooney's position last night, or picked up a yellow card for diving. I'll start with yellow card.

Diego Costa plays for Chelsea so he could not have been in Rooney's position. Rooney plays for Manchester United.
I understand your question perfectly. I think Rooney did go down without contact but if the referee saw fit to give a penalty last night the ref should also give one if the same happened to Costa in a Chelsea match- but refs do sometimes take account of reputations. Nevertheless the challenge was rash/reckless by the keeper and I think a penalty was deserved
If he hadn't dived he would be like me this morning ... sat in a hospital bed and crutches by my side !
I'm still not sure why Aguero was given a yellow card for handball for his disallowed goal last week v Stoke- perhaps it was because he was an Argentine and the ref was trying to make up for the Maradonna 'hand of God' goal
It will take more than that to make up !
The refs assume that Mr Potato Head is too thick to be an effective cheat ... whereas Mr Diego Coffeeshop is a scheming, wily furriner who must be on the fiddle.
LOL ^^^^^ very true though.
every week someone dives in the penalty area in the premiership "its part of the game" so they say don't see why Rooney and Costa are being picked on when other players do it week in and week out and get away with it or is it the old man utd get away with anything syndrome!
I know what you mean, bernie. It's probably because Man U and Chelsea seem to be on the telly more than other teams so people see there players more than others.
factor-fiction - //I'm still not sure why Aguero was given a yellow card for handball//
It just might have something to do with the fact that handball is a foul and knocking the ball into the goal with your hand is a cautionable offence?
a quarter million quid a week, England captain, and he has to resort to diving? should have been sent of as an example. Hanging around the goalmouth in an offside position is not in a position to influence play? Unbelievable.
Johnny37 - under the present laws of the game, he did nothing wrong. Many of these decisions which are now given as onside would have been offside under the old laws. Whether the law change is an improvement is another question?
