Interesting that most league clubs have FC after their name.
Talbot - I assume that's because they are here talking to 'football' fans and not at home talking about football and soccer matches. Gaelic football is big in Ireland and people follow both.
the FA is the body for Association Football, soccer is derived from "association":
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_association.
It seems 99.999999% of the UK have been using the wrong term for ... well all of my life!
So your saying that the governing body for the sport in this country have chosen to ignore its proper name and call, themselves the Football Association?
repeating and propagating an error does not correct it.
You shouldn't be doing it then.
the FA are the Body for association football not all the other kinds so it is presumptuous of them to hog the term. The FA cup should logically be the AF cup and the FA should logically be the AFU, analogous with the RFU.
And the real term for Scottish people is....??!
Your making yourself look a bit silly now old chap. Desist lest I split my sides.
Football = Soccer. Surely everyone knows that. Stupid argument.

Soccer is it's correct name, it comes from asSOCiation "Football" to distinguish it from Rugby or proper football.

I have a cunning trick to tell the difference between Association football and Rugby footall!

I'm pleased the game went ahead and a good show of support and respect before the game.

I never noticed that I've being posting in the 'Soccer' section of AB.
TTT, would, that be the 'article' which you linked to which says 'Wikipedia does not have an article with this exact name'

PMSL.

^ Wikipedia search for soccer takes you to the 'Association Football' page

The defence rests
That's so you don't confuse it with the sub topic Rugby underneath soccer , Arky

I thought rugby was actually called 'rugger'?
yes "asSOCiation football" ie Soccer, well done joe! Can you see it now take the phrase "Rugby Football" we tend to use the first word, see, hence "Rugby" now do the Same for "association football" so we use "association" - that doesn't sound to good so with use it became soccer, in the 19th century it was called soccer, in comics it was called soccer. Geddit?
