Crikey that's so depressing. Imagine being with someone so unable to control themselves that they behave like that because of a daft game :( Mind you there will be a correlation with alcohol consumption and that might be more because of the World Cup in fairness, so it might be a misleading statistic and nothing really necessarily to do with football.

It's just occured to me that some of the violence may not come from the fans, but from spouses totally fed up with their partner's/family's round-the-clock worship of the WC TV coverage :-0

So that equates to an extra 21 incidents a day across England. It's obviously an issue for those affected but the chances of it affecting us or anyone we know on a particular say are not significant- perhaps on a par with being hit by a bus or falling down the stairs.
Figures like this can be misleading in other ways. England games are often played on Saturdays- when incidents of domestic abuse tend to go up anyway, mainly because of alcohol.
