I would go for Grimsby.

Hartlepool used to be pretty close until they reclaimed land nearby - must be pretty close between them and Blackpool for second spot.

From memory, Sunderlands old Roker Park ground was pretty close, or it seemed that way on my couple of visits there.

In non league grounds I remember going to Canvey Islands ground when they were in the Conference, a few years back. Their ground is literally yards from the Sea/estuary.

thanks or that

i remember heartlepool being close

havent been for years

didnt realise they had reclaimed the landback

p.s i believe arboath is the nearest in scotland

(12 yards from sea) if anyone can confirm
Inverness Caledonian Thistle is on the sea front.
Question Author
is it closer in (in yards) than arbroath

p.s i suppose it also depends on if the tide is in or out!
Yes, your probably right.

The ground is called Greater Gayfield - they originally bought part of the sea shore and railway track to extend the whole site.
you've started something now kopend - Tulloch Caledonian Stadium very close, Pittodrie Stadium, not so.

I'm sticking with Arbroath
IN a few years time, Pompey may lay claim to being the closest to the sea. Their new ground proposal will actually be in the sea i believe!
Question Author
so are we agreed

arboath in scotland

grimsby (not blackpool) england
Not to to the point, I know, but Hartlepool was the only football ground to be bombed in both world wars.
I believe Old Trafford was also hit in the war,as they played games at Maine rd and even at Goodison
Sorry didn't see "both world wars"
