"the famous club" : i don't think so !
"The famous club sliding into financial trouble" was how the BBC News described the demise of Southampton. Imminently about to be relegated to League 1, the Saints are no more famous than other run-of-the-mill clubs who once had its "15 minutes of fame" over 30 years ago. Apart from having had Shearer, LeTissier and past-their-sell-by-date players like Keegan and Hughes, why should Southampton be more famous than other one-hit wonders? It's rank bad business acumen which has dragged this middle of the road club into the mire.

If you're old enough to remember when football existed pre-Premier League you'll realise that Southampton were a well organised club with a proud history. Possibly were everyone's favourite second side because of the friendliness of the club and style with which they tried to play football.
Don't ridicule the clubs like the Saints, Norwich, Luton, Derby, Forest, Leeds,Bradford etc , these so called run of the mill clubs helped entertain fans before the bland Sky / Premier League ruined football.
