Hi all

Given that Chelsea recently paid £50M for Torres, how much do you think it would take to persuade Barca to release Messi?

Slightly less than it would take to get Gareth Bale from Spurs :)
I doubt that Barca would part with him and he would not want to go - he talks constantly of his debt of gratitude to the club as they paid his medical bills when he was a teenager
The Sheiks who own Man City might offer silly money for him, but I doubt if he will leave Barcelona whilst they are still winning Trophies. Money talks so who knows especially if Barca are offered £100m
i heard barcalona said they would sell messi if an offer 250 million came in for him,
best player on the planet and makes it all look so easy.
got to be 90mill if ronaldo is 80
I reckon only incredibly stupid money would make Barca accept and offer, well over £100m, doesn't mean Messi would go though. Why would any 1st team regular want to leave Barcelona?
cause id rather have the english prem on my cv. there is only so much excitement you can have wining the league in spain so much
I'd rather play for the best team in the world, that plays the best football in the world and live in the best city in the world.
He's Argentinian so has no worries about the language, he most likely sees La Liga as the top league.
The same way, I'm sure, you couldn't imagine Rooney going to play in Spain.
as much as id hate to say mate i rekon rooney is going spain the contract was to secure us decent money and personally i hope he goes
I thought I was the only one to think Rooneys new contract was a short term solution
Also if you think Ronaldos transfer fee was crazy remember that Real re couped the money in the first year with merch sales
He might come to Brighton if we get promoted.
Has he got a buy out clause in his contract?
What he is worth and what clubs will pay is a different matter.
I dont think any player is WORTH more than £50m (Torres prob worth £30m).
Messi would come close to being worth £50m, but he would fetch £75m plus is sold today hypothetically.
How can there be a difference between what a player is worth, and what someone is willing to pay for them?

Isn't that like saying that a Penny Black is only worth a penny, even though someone is willing to pay £10,000 for it?
If I earned far more than I could possibly need, and lived in Barcelona, no amount of money would persuade me to move to Manchester.
He did once say that he'd rather play for Peacehaven & Telscombe than Brighton.
The clubs desire for a particular player, coupled with some clubs having a massive money pot, means that in some cases players are bought for more than they are worth.
The transfer window also puts pressure on teams to buy sell to a deadline which can increase the value put on players.
Tbh -I thought Ronaldo was worth more than £80m and he has proved that in shirt sales alone. I wonder if there was a buy back clause in the contract. It's not just about what they are worth on the pitch these days and a player like Cristiano generates more publicity than Messi even though Lionel is (slightly) a better picture
