No idea if this is true - According to my mother the tennis championships used to use the tennis courts at Wimbledon High School (girls). She was there about 1930.

Having just googled it, it appears she may have been confused. The first championships were played at the private tennis club in Worple Road - where it is very possible Wimbledon High School went to play tennis.

I've never heard of a top player becoming an umpire..............3 of my local league players have umpired at Wimbledon.

Isn't the same with cricket and football? I've never heard of a top player going on to become a umpire/referee.

The Rubettes have kept their white caps on and gone on to be linesmen. I expect them to sing "Sugar Baby Love" at any time.

D97 In cricket Dickie Bird, Richard Illingworth,Bumble & Peter Willey went on to become umpires.
But yes no footballers went on to become refs
