The day has finally arrived and at 1.30 pm this afternoon, an almighty roar will be heard as the tapes go up on the beginning of the 2014 Cheltenham Festival. The nation's bookies, seeking new custom (like vampires seeking fresh blood), are falling over themselves to entice us to part with our money - though in some cases we need not part with any, such as Stan James who are offering a free £5 bet to anyone, either on line @ www.stanjames.com/freeby (not a link) or by using the token in the Daily Mirror. I have taken advantage of a few of these offers and the one i really like is Paddy Power's offer of money back should your selection finish 2nd, 3rd, or 4th in the opening race, to a maximum of £50.
For what it's worth, my idea of the winner of the first race - 1.30 - is WICKLOW BRAVE @ 7/1, despite the fact that stable jockey Ruby Walsh has chosen to ride Vautour. Good luck.
Thanks to Lord Windemere (0n @ 33/1) and Thomas Crapper (On @25/1) I had a fantastic day, also had an e/w bet on Diakali in the 2.05 Nice to finish Cheltenham week on a winning streak :o)
Been looking forward to this day since Gold Cup day last year!
Got the week off work, £700 to play with and off to meet an old mate to watch the racing in the pub
My fancies for today
1.30 Vaniteux, Three Kingdoms e/w
2.05 Dodging Bullets
2.40 Vintage Star e/w Ackertac e/w
3.20 My Tent Or Yours
4.00 Cockney Sparrow e/w
4.40 According To Trev e/w
5.15 Grandads Horse e/w Dursey Sound e/w
Good luck to you both. Elvis, we agree on MTOY, but i've gone against you in the others; Wicklow Brave, Rock On Ruby, Ma Filleule, MTOY, Quevega, Shotgun Paddy, Ericht.
Svejk, Coral offering 4/1 for Quevega for NEW CUSTOMERS ONLY!!! £10 max. I am already a customer but i am trying to get in touch with my daughters for their bank details so that i can register them as customers and clean up:-)
Re; my 10.09 post. Was able to persuade my 3 daughters, a friend's daughter and one of my non-gambling neighbours to open accounts with Coral and took them for £200. What a horse Quevega is.
Svejk, also had (sizeable) bets on Faugheen @ 6/4, and Sire De Grugy @ 7/2. Very unlucky with another quite large bet on Smad Place, Vendor absolutely nowhere, ditto Star Neuville, 2 each ways - Certification and Azza - in the Fred Winter did nothing and waiting for Black Hercules in the last. Young Mullins had the choice of his dad's 3 runners and chose this. Have also done a rev f/c with this and Ruby's ride.
Oh well, got a run for my money and quids in on the day - and the festival so far. On to tomorrow, now where's that stats sheet..............................
