The day has finally arrived and at 1.30 pm this afternoon, an almighty roar will be heard as the tapes go up on the beginning of the 2014 Cheltenham Festival. The nation's bookies, seeking new custom (like vampires seeking fresh blood), are falling over themselves to entice us to part with our money - though in some cases we need not part with any, such as Stan James who are offering a free £5 bet to anyone, either on line @ www.stanjames.com/freeby (not a link) or by using the token in the Daily Mirror. I have taken advantage of a few of these offers and the one i really like is Paddy Power's offer of money back should your selection finish 2nd, 3rd, or 4th in the opening race, to a maximum of £50.

For what it's worth, my idea of the winner of the first race - 1.30 - is WICKLOW BRAVE @ 7/1, despite the fact that stable jockey Ruby Walsh has chosen to ride Vautour. Good luck.

Good luck to you both. Elvis, we agree on MTOY, but i've gone against you in the others; Wicklow Brave, Rock On Ruby, Ma Filleule, MTOY, Quevega, Shotgun Paddy, Ericht.

Svejk, Coral offering 4/1 for Quevega for NEW CUSTOMERS ONLY!!! £10 max. I am already a customer but i am trying to get in touch with my daughters for their bank details so that i can register them as customers and clean up:-)
Crabbie's Grand National Festival 2014 will take place from Thursday 3rd to Saturday 5th April.
Another great event !
think i'll do your last 3, ken. might do the first one.
lucky if i get 1 winner a day at cheltenham.
i'll bet heavier at wolverhampton tonight, lol.
Question Author
LOL, should've known Walsh would choose correctly:-(

On to Rock On Ruby, come on Noel, do the biz:-)
Question Author
Re; my 10.09 post. Was able to persuade my 3 daughters, a friend's daughter and one of my non-gambling neighbours to open accounts with Coral and took them for £200. What a horse Quevega is.
I'll go with Shutthefrontdoor in the 4.40
Well done Ken Quevega is a real star.
Quevega, classy mare.
Unfortunately, Mr Alba backed Cailin Annamh and his dad backed Down Ace.

However, the FIL still has 2 to come, but don't know which ones.

Very sad about Our Conor.
Question Author
Very true, alba, takes the shine off what has so far been a glorious day.
Spent £100 today, bets, drinks and travelling included, so not a bad day

Studying now for tomorrow
Agree about Our Conor, thoughts to all connected to him
are we all skint today? lol.
faugheen
annacotty
dunguib
sire de grugy
sin palo
le fin bois
vigil
dont put more than £500 on any of them ;-)
Question Author
Svejk, also had (sizeable) bets on Faugheen @ 6/4, and Sire De Grugy @ 7/2. Very unlucky with another quite large bet on Smad Place, Vendor absolutely nowhere, ditto Star Neuville, 2 each ways - Certification and Azza - in the Fred Winter did nothing and waiting for Black Hercules in the last. Young Mullins had the choice of his dad's 3 runners and chose this. Have also done a rev f/c with this and Ruby's ride.
Question Author
Oh well, got a run for my money and quids in on the day - and the festival so far. On to tomorrow, now where's that stats sheet..............................
Grrrr, I wish Dermot Weld would stick to Flat Racing! I know, I know it was a Bumper
Seconditis for me today, 20 mile slog home and study up for tomorrow

Done Man City to win 3-0, 3-1 and 3-2 tonight to try and claw back some funds
i did the same as you, ken. good bets on the 2 winners and shrapnel on the others. so good day. bring on tomorrow.
