They should be so lucky. Awful weather for August and I fancy the Panamas and Linen suits may be abandoned for Macs and rain hoods. Ah well. I got my bets on last night as we are off for a day out to Chester. On the road very early. ITV7 done and Goodwood J.Pot & P.Pot. ****Win Acca, Doubles, Trebles. ###E/W Trixie. Took last nights odds with b.o.g. I will have to live with any Non runners. Good luck.

Best of luck, Togo. Goodwood's one of my least favourite tracks - mainly because i find it so hard to find winners there, and i'm not just talking about the annual GG festival. It's a year round thing and i keep my stakes to a minimum, usually choosing horses who have previously done well at the course and following stables who regularly find winners here, such as Johnstone's.
A cursory glance at the first race at GG shows me i have a bit of a dilemma - normally i would be all over Lord Riddeford (won last two runnings of this race) but Vintage Clarets is also lining up. Maybe this is one of those occasions where i do 2 in the same race?

I've done a fiver on Vintage Clarets @ 7/1 - money back if 2nd, 3rd, or 4th, put Lord Riddiford in the Placepot and done them both in a rev f/c.

Just placing ITV7.
Why did Fahey have to go and run VC in that race? Some horses like Goodwood, some hate it. Lord Riddiford very obviously loves it and that was it's easiest win of the 3 in this race. Just tried kicking myself, but i missed:-/

Placepot's got off to a flyer though, every cloud.............

Main bet, all at Bev;

Just Hiss @ 7/1 - 2.00 - 4 places
Ask Peter @ 5/1 - 2.35 - 4 places
Hey Mr @ 13/2 - 4.20 - 4 places
First Greyed @ 6/1 - 4.55 - 4 places

Win singles, 20p L15, £1 e.w. acca. 4 placed = £20, 4 winners = £2,719.

2.50 Good; Outbreak @ 16/1 - e.w. single 5 places at 365
3.35 Yar; Bailey's Khelstar @ 5/1 - 4 places
5.05 Good; Novus @ 5/1 - 7 places
5.35 Good; Executive Decision @ 7/1 - 4 places

20p Lucky 15, £1 e,w, acca. 4 placed = £34, 4 winers = 5,582.

ITV7 - above qualifiers, plus; Expert Choice*, Haatem*, Band Of Joy, Kinross and Courage Mon Ami*. £1 e.w. acca.

*= Tricast/Treble for a poss £110.

Best of luck, all.
Couple of those in the Trixie obliged for a near £13 return, a fiver on First Greyed and also had a couple of quid on Saffie's mount Executive Decision in the last.
Ahead on the day but not by that much.
My turn to be on early today, places to go, people to meet, etc.

Despite there being quite a few handicaps at the 3 afternoon meetings, there are quite a lot of out-of-form sorts competing in them and it would be no surprise whatsoever to see some of yesterday's big prices repeated.

1.50 Good; Struth @ 15/2 - 4 places
3.10 Red; Mother Mary @ 11/4 - 4 places
4.55 Red; Rainbow Rain @ 5/1 - 4 places
5.20 Good; Classic @ 15/2 - 5 places

Win singles, 20p L15, £1 e.w. acca with both 365 and Sky who, between them, pay extra places on all 4 races. 4 placed = £45, 4 winners = £3,594.

ITV7; Struth, Champagne Gift*, Breege (£2 win), Salamanca Lad, Dalileo*, Big Evs and Paddington (omitted from e.w. acca)

*= L15/e.w. acca with Castletown and Jackhammer for a poss £1600.

Best of luck, all.

Have a good day Ken, as we did yesterday. Apart from my choice of horses that is. Was astonished to see armed police patrolling the streets of Chester, something that I though would never happen in my lifetime, if ever. Not the category to be questioning the whys or wherefores though. Very pleased to find that I was happy walking for a total of about 4 hours with a pleasant lunch in between. On to today's cards. Why are we at a NH meet again, in August, when there are perfectly good flat races available? Watched the races on playback last night, Tom Marquand and Quickhorn stole the kitty with brilliant performances. What a horse. However done the ITV7 and ****E/W Acca, Trebles, Doubles at Goodwood. ##E/W Double. Placepot & Jackpot done at Goodwood. Good luck all.

Struth @10/1 1.50G*
Red Missile @10/1 2.10 P#
Fast Responce @6/1 2.25G*
Sweet Soul Music 2.35R
Petite Rhapsody @9/1 2.45P#
Kylian 3.00G
Paddington 3.35G

With** Tropical Island @3/1 4.10G. Never Ending @12/1 4.45G( also in the J.pot & P.pot)

Only just discovered Redcar's abandonment, so have £10 returned (2 win singles). Have used the refund (already dead money) to take advantage of WH's offer of evens on Paddington.

Bleedin opeless again. My best two were a non runner and a race abandoned.
My only success was Paddington. 3 n/rs in the main bet and the 4 in the other bet may as well have been n/rs:-(
A great display by Paddington.
He is some horse!
Question Author
Yes Pete65 ... beaten everything put in front of him since his pipe opener last Sept. Won on soft and good ground at 3 distances. Wonder if they will keep him in training next year or send him straight to stud. Entered in the Juddmonte at York at the end of the month.
Yes, Togo, the Juddmonte would seem to be the obvious choice for Paddington.
I wonder if the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe could be on the cards?
Will he get the trip?
His stable companion Auguste Rodin is proving unreliable for whatever reason. Aidan O'Brien is baffled by his latest run. There is something not quite right with the horse, but I am sure the folks at Ballydoyle are doing their very best to find out what!
Question Author
Yesterday was a tough race for a young horse in that going. It undid Inspiral for sure. Maybe the Juddmonte comes just a bit too soon and there is no sun on his back to speed up recovery. Perhaps a race in Ireland and then the Arc. The way he finished in the heavy ground suggests that stamina would not be a problem. He is still a bit keen at the beginning of races and was pulling Moore's arms out for the first half mile so perhaps the Arc next year when he is a bit wiser. We can only guess.
Far from enamoured by today's offerings at all 3 UK afternoon meetings. I know the going has had an effect on the number of runners - and apparently there's more rain forecast for Goodwood (poss heavy going late afternoon) - but the other meetings are also short of quantity for my liking.

I backed Novus on day 1 and though it ran a great race to finish 2nd, i don't believe 2 days is enough for it to recover on what will be much slower going, so i've deserted it - lump on everybody!!:-/

The e.w. punt on Finn's Charm aside, my selections are based on the going rather than stats.

1.50 Good; Coverdale @ 11/1 - 5 places
4.45 Good; Roarin Success @ 7/1 - 6 places
5.55 Good; Another Baar @ 9/1 - 4 places

£1 patent, £1 e.w. treble with both 365 and Sky - all 3 races extra places between them.

£1 e.w. Finn's Charm @ 40/1 - 5 places 1.50 Good.

ITV7; Coverdale, Sir Argus, Van Deek, Thornaby Pearl, Hercule Du Soleil, Espionage and Blue Rose Cen. £1 e.w. acca - Wasn't going to bother but i have a suspicion the tie-breaker will be employed today and i'd hate to have all 7 winners and not receive anything for my ooh, look, a flying pig.

Best of luck, all.

Another mixed bag of races, we are even at Galway for the ITV7. After the rain and looking at the forecasts it may be the only meeting to survive :(( Done the ITV7 but without much enthusiasm and put a bet together from the more open fields at Goodwood. **** E/W Acca, Trebles & Doubles. P,Pot and J,Pot Goodwood. Good luck if you have a flutter.

Should've stuck with Novus yesterday, would have given me a winner and an e.w. treble. Return wouldn't have been much but certainly better than the nothing i did get:-(

20p L15, £1 e.w. acca at both 365 and Sky to ensure extra places for all 4 horses. 4 placed = total of £60, 4 winners = £6,933.

Rev f/c; Flag Of St George and Loaded Gun.

ITV7; Aggagio, Geelong, Nostrum, Harrapan, Lattam, McLoven and Highfield Princess. I have done a £1 e.w. acca despite the number of 'shorties' in there - £18 if all place.
