Is this the stupidest competition in sport ?

It looks like we are drawing tonight. It just makes all the players tired for the proper matches.

Is it compulsory to be in it?

I think we should have opted out, really.

The Carling Cup's been going for 50 years and I don't think it can be blamed for the fact that clubs are more obsessed now with league games.
If you look at the list of winners in recent years particularly it shows that the bigger clubs at least take it seriously

if you win it you have a place in one of the european cups

The Football League Cup (which keeps changing its name in line with its sponsorship) ought to be regarded as the top knock-out competition as, unlike the FA Cup, only Football League and Premier League sides can play in it.

As Dr F has indicated, the winners get an automatic place in European competition (in the UEFA Europa League).

Well, I think it's a silly competition.

And it's had some totally daft names.

You wouldn't catch us giving anything a daft name ... like the Amex Community Stadium, or anything like that!

Buenchico you don't get a automatic place into Europa league you still have to play a qualifying game to get into the group stages.

I must admit I really enjoyed watching last night's televised football... :-)

Mmmm....most teams field weakened squads -so hardly many tired players
Also it is a brilliant opputunity for young squad members,,fringe players, returning from injury players to get vital experience
So def not stupid - but vital
