That game, just on, England-Wales, was pretty dire. I had decided to stay in rather than head for the pub, partly as it is another crap night outside, weatherwise. That was a mistake.

England's goal wasn't bad but, overall, a pretty moribund performance.

(i) that wasn't a performance of a European Championship side. Agree? Do England really have a chance?

(ii) Why does one have to watch so many dire games to get a good one?

Congrats Wales for your attempt and it should have really been 1-1

Bring on the Rugby World Cup, starting this Friday.

At least the England cricket team are doing well. 10.15p.m. and still batting . . . . .
I only saw the second half of the England v Wales match and it was pretty dire.

I am not sure England made one goal scoring chance in the whole half.

Wales had a couple of chances and Earnshaw will never forget missing that open goal.

Could easily have been 1-1 or even 1-2 to Wales.
they aren't as good as the Germans, Spanish or Dutch imo, but not to far behind. You don't get any points for playing good you just have to win or draw which englandshire seem to do most of the time. Their qualifying record speaks for its self.
aye i'm looking forwards to the rugger cup as well
I don't think we'll win the Euro Championships I'd say Holland,Spain,Germany and Italy have a better chance.
We are probably on a par with Portugal and France and a Quarter Final exit is most likely.

Spain should win it though....Still at least we 'll hopefully be part of it :-)

Les Ecossais won 1-0 - so they still have an open door to qualify, just......
where were our forwards? the number of times we put good crosses into the box and Rooney was the only one there was ridiculous
>>>You don't get any points for playing good

But playing good helps overall when you are "up against it".

Germanys record so far is

Germany P 8 W 8 D 0 L 0 F 28 A 5 Pts 24
bad refereeing on saturday could of f'd it for us, but hay hoe there's still the world cup..................... jobbies i think we got Wales
>>>where were our forwards?

Well he was the only true forward.

Downing, Young, Lampard, Barry and Milner are all midfield/wide players.

Bent would have played if he had not been injured.
I Used to watch a great deal of football - ok semi-pro level live, very occasional First Division (before the Premier League) live and Match of The Day - but the practice of passing it back and forth along the back four has totally ruined my viewing pleasure.

Even Internationals are not worth the effort!!
since seeding the top countries have it easy as they are guaranteed to be playing all lesser teams, that is not fair imo. so much for "fair play"
vhg so Bent was injured and we had no-one to take his place, Why wait till 88 minutes to bring Carroll on
The reason IMHO why the German stats are so good, is that so many young men (women too) actually PLAY football, every village in Germany has a football field. In the UK, many watch, and few participate.
In the days when I watched club football (when it was marginally more entertaining than “Songs of Praise”) International football was invariably rubbish. And it seems it still is.

Apparently last year’s World Cup was no exception. Day after day of tedium with the occasional burst of mediocrity. Why do football fans expect anything different? A squad of “stars” is drawn together for the odd kickabout from time to time (forcing the cancellation of all the matches that their employers want them to play) and people expect them to perform to the highest level.

Why ???

Why do England have trouble producing a team capable of success? Because top flight football in England is played by teams with scarcely an Englishman in them.

Simples !!
I hate football, but I watched the first 15 minutes of this match because the young chap across the road wanted to watch it (I know - I am a great softie). Anyway, I feel I must say that I was amazed at the Welsh defenders. Practically all of their 'work' was at their end of the pitch defending their goal, and a very good job they made of it too. A pity they didn't seem to be able to attack the English goal, but I thought they were very good. I see England won, but only managed one goal and I can believe that! I know nothing of football, and I am English but I still think Wales deserved to win, although they didn't.
I love football and have always followed England for 35 years but, after last years crap in South Africa I haven't watched them since!!!
