Am I wrong here: I cannot see exactly Mike Tindall did wrong, from a sporting perspective, he went to a bar, with permission, had a few beers, as is a rugby players want, met an old flame who kissed him on the head and "may" have allowed a closer view of her personal assets. If it wasn't Tindall it may never have been made public.
It seems to me that the media wished to undermine the England team and took a fairly innocuous incident and turned it into a witch hunt. Isn't there a lack of patriotism here rather than stupid behaviour.
From a personal view point, his conduct may not have been top class, but it wasn't adultery and it wouldn't of affected his playing ability, until the media made it a problem.

This is the climax of 4years preparation for a World Cup in the southern Hemisphere and professionalism and endeavour predominates, as well as being ambassadors for England.
A few beers maybe ( the Welsh imposed a voluntary ban on alcohol) but throwing dwarfs around and gallivanting with women until the early hours of the morning, is not professional behaviour in my opinion.
If Tindall had been playing well, if the team as a whole were playing well, the perhaps......perhaps....this may have been overlooked, but the team were not playing to expectations. One always felt and hoped that there was another gear for England to slip into.....but there wasn't.
If one wants to be a winner......a world team winner, then sacrifices have to be made and in my opinion Tindall, as well as others were not prepared to make that sacrifice.

The raggy tabloids forgot all about the rugby, and focused on that "incident" ... or "non incident" if you ask me.
The Brit Press were more interested in selling a few extra copies of their rags, rather than getting behind the team.
Could you imagine the public in New Zealand buying a newspaper that criticised the All Blacks?

The New Zealand press has a go at the All Blacks all the time.
They are under 10 times the pressure the England players are under. The difference is that so far the All Blacks have played comparatively well.
No one is accusing Mike Tindall of adultery - just of being a twit.
He also lied about what he'd been up to.
If you don't want the press on your back don;t go behaving like idiots, would be my advice.
Using the papers as an excuse won't wash, and in fairness I don't think the England players are using that excuse.

Let's look at it this way as a member of the British Press.......a few weeks ago, you marry the Queens Granddaughter, with all the TV and media focussed on this commoner marrying into the Royal family. All the criticisms of the Monarchy as they are seen to be coming into the 21st century.
He is England's centre three quarter, not playing particularly well, but still possibly the first choice.
Would you expect to be free of the attention of the Press?

I think Mr Tindall did not fully appreciate his position....he should realise that marrying the Queens Granddaughter carries additional responsibilities Yes Zara is about as un royal as you can be in that position but the royals and their spouses are expected to behave with a degree of decorum especially when abroad.

Don't buy any newspapers as I too can't stand the way our press operate.
The problem is they influence public opinion to a high degree but the media is very two-faced switching allegiances regularly.
Slightly OT but before Princess Diana died the media were slaughtering her but as soon as she died the whole 'England's rose bandwagon got rolling'.

I can't see that he did much wrong myself. Later behaviour on and off the field was more questionable. I think it was the royal angle - including the recent marriage - that caught the British media's eye.
There were indeed some All Blacks out drinking a week ago. They were criticised by it in local papers.

Time was newspapers used to send sports journalists to report on sporting events. They were normally on very good terms with the players and any misbehaviour on either side would go unmentioned. And quite right too, in my opinion.
Nowadays, with the cult of celebrity, there's a huge number of so-called journalists following any team about with the aim of catching them unawares. Probably began with Ian Botham and continued with the whole w.a.g. thing.
This is a bunch of young blokes, away from home for two months and stuck in an hotel with loads of other young blokes. Of course there's going to be some skylarking. Watch Police, Camera, Action or any of the other cop shows that block the schedules these days, and see what pissed blokes and women can do at home on a Friday night.
There is no suggestion that Tindall did anything illegal. Indeed, I do wonder if he was set up.
And now the powers-that-be at Twickenham are getting all po-faced about the whole thing, hence my 57 old f@rts remark earlier:
