Inacoma - you ask "What about the Irish?"
We have lots of clubs to support and if even a small percentage of the glory hunters I pass on my way home to see Linfield stopped heading to Old Trafford, Anfield, Ibrox, Stamford Bridge and Celtic Park and bothered to attend their local ground even just a few times a season then our clubs might do a little better.
As for the debate about local teams, I agree that you should go with your home town team, to a point. What about someone who is born in London because their parents moved there for work? Should they renounce their home town team? It's a difficult one and there is, in my opinion, no definitive answer. I live in central Scotland but have no intention of adopting a team to replace Linfield, they're irreplacable in my affections, but I do attend a variety of local games.
As for leaving early, I used to attend Ibrox regulalry and was consistently amazed at the number of empty seats on 85 minutes, and that's when Rangers were dominant. Sure, some have disablities or need to leave for work or a particularly long journey, but 25,000 of them? This is by no means confined to Ibrox, Celtic Park is as bad, and I used to love it when Rangers scored late as it meant the early leavers missed a goal.I always wondered if these same people used to go to the cinema and leave ten minutes before the end? As for their sex lives?
