It the winter term.

That means ... misty fields, frosty grass, crispy cool air, and ...

... going to watch my friends' daughter play lacrosse.

I might take my sports kit. You never know. They might be short of a third home or midfielder, LOL. And there's always the mums v kids game, he he.

What else is happening sports wise at the mo? The rugby is soon, yes?

It is, 6 Nations starts 4th/5th Feb and I cannot wait.
I've been starved of my international rugby 'fix' since the World Cup (bar Shane's swansong in Dec) and I'm pleasantly surprised at how quickly it has come around. Should be a terrific campaign for all concerned.

misty fields, crisp cool air? Is lax played in a different season from rugby? Watching jno jnr play rugby always involved standing in pouring rain, mitigated by trips to A&E.

He still plays but pushing 30 he no longer requires (or desires) parental support.

Seriously it will again be very tight. To coin the usual phrases England are going through a transitional phase after the post mortem of their WC disaster, Italy as ever are the unknown quantity (their win against France in last years championship was edge of the seat stuff and thoroughly desrved), Scotland too are rebuilding after a couple of key retirements and Ireland look as strong as ever.

Wales had a fantastic WC but they too will be without the mercurial Shane Williams but have a plethora of up and coming talent to choose from.

It'll be tight between Ireland and Wales and I feel the French will not reach the heights they did (with some good fortune) in reaching the WC Final, but, as the ultimate cliche goes 'you never know which French team is going to turn up'!!

So as usual, it's all up in the air!

Well, maybe we've just been lucky.

Whenever I've gone to watch her play, it's hardly ever rained. I just associate the game with those pitches with a little layer of mist, and watching from the touchlines (I know, I know ... don't get started on LaX touchlines!) ... with a flask of coffee.

And we always get lunch with the girls, which is jolly (although they bagsy a separate table, obviously).

I suppose by 30, you don't really want your parents hanging around, jno.

No, just coming for the day - about a 3 hour trek.

Parking arrangements around the ground don't look too clever - what do the locals think about having the ground in the middle of no where?

Oh, hum. Well, although it was a bit rubbish, I loved going to Withdean. Down in League One, at our crappy little stadium, with the hardcore fans ... that was "me" sort of football. But ... look at our attendance figures!! People from here are flooding into the new stadium, even though it's actually quite a trek from here. So I suppose they like it, but it would be nice if it was closer.

no, that's what I mean, if it freezes it'll get called off, and I don't want that! Partly because the alternative will be to start drinking at 1 and I haven't the money to do that!
