Is Harry Rednapp really the only choice for England manager?

Is Harry Rednapp really the only choice for England manager?
I m not so sure that he would necessarily be the right man for the job. Personally I think the present Blackpool manager Ian Holloway would be a breath of fresh air but who would be your successful candidate?

well Psycho is the caretaker, give him the job proper, he's done wonders with the U21s

Stuart Pearce definitely won't get it as the GB team will be taking his time arguably at just the wrong time. He is young enough to be considered for the future but I would agree that he would also be an excellent choice. He fits the cliché 'players would run thru walls for him' as does Rednapp.

A man who had a very good chance of keeping his team in the Premier league last season, but threw it away by being unable to organize his defence and stop them leaking goals.

He is a breath of freash air, but it takes more than that to be England manager.

One quality an England manager needs is the ability to get a group of men who don't normally play together, in fact who may have been kicking bits out of each other the previous weekend to bond together and work for one another.... Then he next needs to make them perform at their absolute best in the face of public and press scrutiny againt opposition.

This requires a lot of interpersonal skills and a good feel for psychology.. It isn't something you see that often... You have the lead by example brigade who inspire.... Stuart Pearce is one of those I think
Then there are managers who seem to instill belief like Jose Mourinho and I think Harry has the same knack players not only play for the team they play for him because they don't want to let him down as well as for all the other reasons you play at the highest level I think Sir Bobby Robson was one of the best at this So on that basis Harry for me is the best man for the job

Why dont the press keep out of it .It seems the FA have to be ansewrable to the press .The press dont speak for me .I watched the press conference yesterday .Primary 5 could could have come up with better questions .Theres to much money being wasted on paying millions to managers who will have about 26 staff .why not a board allocated 100,000 on a rolling 1 year contract .Get rid of rooney ,cole gerrard and bring in some decent players .Harry,s not the man .Id give the Stoke manager it part time .

I only take a passing interest in the results of football matches, having long ago given up watching it as I cannot stand the cheating, intimidation of match officials, posing and general bad behaviour exhibited by a number of the game’s participants.

As far as international football is concerned it is usually second or third rate rubbish. The “major tournaments” consist of forty or fifty matches during which, if you are lucky, you might get one or two half decent ones. (This is not my opinion – I haven’t watched an international football match for more than 20 years. It is the opinion of most sportswriters). This is to be expected when a group of players who are drawn from various club sides just get together for the occasional kickabout now and then. England has a particular problem in this respect as a large number of players in the top flight teams are foreign.


‘Arry seems to be doing a good job at Tottenham (certainly based on results). Why he should want to leave a position where he has been successful for a job where he will almost certainly be branded a failure is quite beyond me. The England manager’s job is a thankless task which has been the undoing of a number of otherwise competent managers in the past. Mr Rednapp would do well to stay at Tottenham and pass up the chance of accepting the poison chalice. What about the delightful "Sir" Alex Ferguson? He has nothing left to prove at United and he (and we) could do with a change.

If arry was offered it would he actually take it ? Be a chnage as he's used to teh day to day football side compared to only seeing the players every few months, i think he would be good but would he be able to solve the lampard/gerrard problem and not be afraid of dropping players and/or only picking players based on performances rather than reputation.

I reckon MoN would be a good choice but he's just started at Sunderland, hodgson has experience of international management but is he good enough though.
