>>>What about the 1966 World Cup?
I am old enough to have gone to a match in the 1966 World Cup.
I was 16 and my father bought me a ticket for the first England match v Uruguay (he went as well of course). Sadly it finished 0-0.
Follow on story.
My father worked near Wembley stadium for Redifusion Television (the TV company) who were filming and showing the final (England v W Germany of course). As he was a TV engineer he was asked to come to work in case anything went wrong.
As the match got nearer everythng was OK at work so he strolled up to the stadium to catch the atmosphere.
Most people had gone in the ground (or stayed at home to watch it on TV) so it was pretty deserted outside the gound, and as the match was about to kick off the "touts" were trying to get rid of their last few tickets.
The touts were happy to take anything for a ticket to get rid of them so my dad gave him 10 shillings I think and so got in to see the final.
My dad died a few years ago, but when sorting out his stuff we never found the ticket "stub".
