I saw the news about Tyson Gay -- the way he was talking about it earlier, he seems to have some idea that there is more to the case than that he was cheating. But Powell too? That's just sad. Two of the best sprinters in the world. We're running out of people who are clean, now. That's such a shame.
I should think quite a few Hopkirk - sport if full of drug takers - just that some get found out. Look at what has happened at the Godolphin stables and these are horses.
Oh I hate this...I love athletics and then feel so let down...took me ages to get over Ben Johnson. Why for god's sake....surely winning like that takes away the sense of elation and pride? :-( x
I can almost understand Gay as the pressures to compete with Bolt were immense but to resort to this is unforgivable. He genuinely believed he could beat Bolt but he failed to realise that the only reason he is the 2nd fastest man in history is because Bolt dragged him to that time.
Powell is the surprise for me.
I honestly don't see why they bother as the loss of earnings and respect as a result of what will almost certainly be a 2 year minimum ban does not make it worth it.
Gatlin is a drugs cheat and has never been properly accepted back.
Gay's comments:
"I don't have a sabotage story... I basically put my trust in someone and was let down," he said.
"I know exactly what went on, but I can't discuss it right now.
Seem to suggest being let down by a coach or a physician of some type.
Sherone Simpson is the 3rd sprinter who has also failed a drug test.
The most plausible form of defence to blame A.N.Other but at the end of the day the responsibility falls on their shoulders.
I would also add that I don't think that the sport is riddled with cheats just a few bad apples who will get get found out. The system is clearly working.
Jamaica and Trinidad produce an extraordinary number of top class sprinters for places with such small populations. It may be their culture. Powell failed a drug test.
