Winter Games Day 6 (Wed 12Th)
78 Answers
This is it, guys.
Tomorrow morning, the start of Day 6 ...
You HAVE to be in front of a telly screen of some sort at 7.00am
It's the Women's Downhill.
Get up, make coffee, get the telly on, and don't forget to wear your Chemmy scarf, and your Chemmy tee shirt, and your Chemmy hat, and be waving your Chemmy flag.
It feels like the end of a long, long wait. Well, four years!
It's the greatest event, in the greatest sporting spectacle on the planet. It's the Winter Olympics, and it's the Women's Downhill. And ... it's Chemmy Alcott.
Oh, crap. What if my alarm clock breaks down in the night? Aaaaaagh! How am I supposed to sleep tonight.
Okay, here we go, guys. I'll see you on the other side, with plenty of coffee, and toast, ready to watch the Women's Downhill.

I know it's the luck of the draw, and all that, but for Chemmy to ski 35th on a sunny morning?
I mean, come on!
The first girls were skiing on virtually a sheet of ice. By the time Chemmy skied, the top layer was turning to slush. You could see how much snow was spraying up on the turns. By that time, the competitors had no chance of a medal position.
Chemmy finished her run in 19th, and that was her final position. So all the girls who skied after Chemmy were slower than she was. Why? Because the piste was getting slower, and slower.
Amazingly, despite having to ski on basically slush, Chemmy was only 1.86 secs off the Gold Medal time. Just think what she could've done if she'd had a good draw, and skied in the first ten or so. Or if it had been overcast, so the sun hadn't melted the top layer of the piste.

Chemmy, and Team GB ... beaten by the draw, and the weather.
Okay, whinge over.
I should add that Chemmy got down that hill in 1:43 mins. The course is just over two miles long, so that's going some. She could give me a three or four minutes head start, and still catch me.
Switzerland were =1st, and 3rd so the BF will be celebrating.
Tina Maze, the joint Gold Medal winner, was one of the "One For The Boys" competitors. Remember Tina? ...

So anyway, I watched the gorgeous mountains, and the snow, and the sunshine, and the tanned faces, and ... I want to be skiing ... I want, I want, I want !!!!!!!
I can't believe that AB hasn't been allocated a Press Pass for Sochi. I would volunteer to go. Someone has to take one for the team.
Heeeeey, hang on ... are any of our regular ABers secretly posting from Sochi, after baggsying the AB free ticket? I have my suspicions about AOG!

Hey, pixie x
Nope, I'm not a professional sporter. I wish. It would be fab if I was good enough at any sport to get paid for it. But no, it's just for fun. I love the Winter Olympics.
My BF is a guy I met on a skiing holiday in Italy. He lives in Switzerland. The down side is that he lives so far away. The up side is that, when I go to see him, we can go skiing, so I'm quite lucky, coz I get to ski quite often. That's not the only reason I'm dating him, lol. I do kind of like him, too.
