World Cup Svejk means nothing .too well paid divers rolling around .Soccer has been ruined by these antics.
i'll watch bits of it, I expect. I can take it or leave it.
Perhaps Weecalf is refering to this story about the manner in which Qatar was chosen as host?

Personally, I quite enjoy the world cup and am happy that its easily ignored by those who don't.
No, only the things I don't like should be scrapped.

Daft post of the day! (but it is early I suppose)
No. It shouldn't be scrapped. I hate football, and the corruption involved in this case, but the World Cup tournament as a whole brings pleasure to millions of people, worldwide.

Football is a tedious game with an unusually high preponderance of cheats among its participants. International football is notorious for its low quality (teams formed of players brought together for the odd match here and there are unlikely to perform very well). The World Cup is the pinnacle of all this tedium, dishonesty and mediocrity. The format of the competition is ridiculous. Leaving aside the two years of qualifying, the finals as currently organised take 63 matches to find a winner from 32 teams - more than twice as many as necessary. Then of course there is the inexplicably unnecessary "third place play off". Because of the low quality spectators and TV viewers may be fortunate to see one or two half decent encounters amongst all this.

It should come as no surprise that the selection of venue for the 2022 competition (or indeed any of the others) is under scrutiny. The big money which is incomprehensively generated by the competition is bound to attract corruption. It will be interesting to hear fans' comments when this nonsense thankfully comes to an end. Most will probably say that they were not that impressed by it all.

So should it be scrapped. Well if it gives a few folk a bit of pleasure I suppose not. But the saturation coverage on TV is unnecessary. The BBC should confine it to one of their minority channels such as BBC4 or, better still, CBBC.
Whilst i agree with much of what New Judge has to say, i welcome this tournament and the saturated tv coverage. Mediocre it may often be, but nowhere near as mediocre as the soaps and reality tv that would otherwise be broadcast. Perhaps the beeb should consign those programmes to BBC 4 or, better still, Room 101.
Yes Ken, Room 101 seems a good place for much of the stuff on the "telly" :-)
If Big Brother can survive for 15 seasons I don't think there is any danger of the World Cup being scrapped any time soon :-)

It isn't only 2022 under investigation, but 2018. That seems to have been ten
(forgot)ten (!)
