can someone tell me how many matches will be played in Brazil please. My wife is worried she might miss the Soaps (as if we don't get enough of them already).

Ronyav's link counts them for you - 64. There are no 7pm kick offs - nearly all 5pm and 9pm - so i would guess that the broadcasting of soaps will not be affected.

I think you'll find that most (well, the realists amongst us) don't expect too much from our lads this time around. When the group draw was made my first reaction was to put a small each way bet on Uruguay @ 33/1. And despite the operation on Suarez, i still believe that they will get further than us.
