As most of you know, unless you've been residing on Mars these past few months the Tour de France begins today in Yorkshire.
To all the good folk up there I say congratulations for gaining the prestige of starting the greatest show on earth, you did a magnificent job just getting the honour.
Secondly, thanks to each and every cycling fan from GB and elsewhere who will be there to see off the 22 teams in this years tour, you have done and will do us proud with your support and enthusiasm.
Sadly there's not as many Brits taking part as we would like but those who are will feel the weight of expectation upon their shoulders, though they'll be sent swiftly on their way with no little encouragement.
Hopefully, Cav will fulfil his dream and take le maillot jaune in the town where his mother hails from. He has a fantastically well-drilled lead out train in Team Omega Pharma Quick Step who will pedal for their lives to make it so and the fans at the roadside will be screaming him on.
To the riders(especially Foome, Team Sky and the legend that is Jens Voigt), bonne chance pour tout(to Geraint Thomas pob lwc!), chapeau and may your god be with you as you all make it safely to Paris.

Apologies, I thought you were denigrating the race because it wasn't the most testing first stage, but then they can't exactly do Alpe d'Huez and the Ventoux on alternate days for 3 weeks, there's gotta be a bit of gentle undulation along the way.

Kudos to the BMC rider who didn't just throw his musette bag, he placed it right in front of a little boy no more than 5 years old as he rode by. The youngster was obviously chuffed to bits.

Porte, Froome's loyal lieutenant was involved in a fall earlier but true to form has buried himself in order to get back within touching distance of the peloton.

Ha ha, a local bobby just gets out of the way in the nick(no pun intended) of time as the front riders reach the summit. Could have been embarrassing.

The crowds on the side of the road and in the road are incredible. Then look further afield at all the bikes stashed against the fences!

8km to go as they his the infamous Jenkin Rd in Sheffield, 25/30% gradient. Team Sky are right in the mix with Geraint Thomas from Wales at the front. C'mon G!!!

The big boys have joined in, Contador, Nibali and Froome now at the front.

Froome attacks! Contador can't catch him as Van Garderen moves up. Froome wants to stay near the front out of trouble and he's doing the business.

Great race, great finish. Crowds larger than when I last raced over Holme Moss, it was mostly sheep watching us then, but that was over 50 years ago. Up the league! :0)

Estimates are that 2.5 million were along the route over the 2 days in Yorkshire, 230,000 in Leeds City Centre on Day 1, 60,000 on Holme Moss alone on Day 2.

That is frankly unprecedented and unparalleled in the history of the TdF so chapeau to Yorkshire and everyone who attended, you've made sporting history on a grand scale.

Today le Tour goes from Cambridge to London, finishing on the Mall.
Hopefully the southerners can put on just as good a show and display of support as Yorkshire did, tough act to follow though.
