Why? The Great North Run is a serious athletic event as well as a fun run. That's the beauty of the sport. If it was possible for Sunday leaguers to have as kickabout on the pitch at the same time at the Champions League Final you would not really expect the professionals to donate their money to charity would you (it would be nice if they did but you shouldn't expect it :-) )

They do indeed, although in Mo's case it wasn't even like that. As you point out yourself, he was already established in this country before he became an international athlete

On Jordy's basis, we should throw out quite a lot of our 'British' gold medallists, anyone from Pete Reed (rower, born USA) to Bradley Wiggins (born Ghent, Belgium). Mo was brought up here, regards himself as British, has his own charitable foundation.
To me, the man is brilliant, the major flaw in him being that he is a staunch Arsenal supporter.
