Kautoi Star Has Died
Now I know nothing about horse riding but was Kauto Star the best horse ever? and if not, what is?

Jumpers can and have done well in top long distance racing but couldn't match, say Danny's Frankel, for speed over shorter distances.

Arkle was the best jumper ever.
He was the only horse, flat or jumper, for which the rules had to be changed.
If he was entered in a handicap (and he won plenty) there was an "A" handicap and a "B" handicap. If he ran, the A handicap was used, if he did not the B handicap was used.
In the A handicap there were lots of horses of varying abilities stuck on the bottom weight.
In the B handicap they were weighted to their true abilities.
Kauto Star was a super horse, but Arkle could have gave him over a stone advantage and a sound beating.

One horse who I was fascinated to read about, was the great New Zealand horse, Phar Lap.
He had little buds on the top of his head like the start of horns.
Makes one think.
Unfortunately, he died in the USA, in very suspicious circumstances.
It was many years later that modern science was able to show that he had consumed a massive amount of arsenic before he died.
