They didn't sing national amthems in anything remotely resembling 'contemporary style' until relatively recently. Why they felt the need to do this, I have no idea (other than promoting sales of the singer's records) but I'll bet the Americans started it. Was it an Olympics?
At least she didn't shoehorn in 50 extra notes, per line, as is the fashion.
I may be wrong but when they play anthems at the podium, I swear the band* slips in a couple of extra notes in the closing bars which either aren't there or it's just me, thinking it sounds wrong: -
They turn "save our queen" (three notes, one per word) into "say-ay-ay-ave our queen" (six notes). Bleuurrghh.
* Of what ever country they are in. Either they are part of the entourage or it's a local band in each country but duff sheet music has been distributed to them all.
