Bt Now Charging For Bt Sport
Did you sign up for Free BT Sport? If so better check your bill.
I signed up in April, and they have charged me £5 for August. They did this without informing of the change. That is an extra £60 per year. I have now cancelled it. I checked the forums and it has happened to many people, so check your bill if you have BT.

I believe an email was sent out by BT Sport to all customers saying about the new charges. Maybe you deleted it without reading it, or have changed email address.
More here on BT Sport Lite.

"That football match ticket seems bad value to me."
I think the point was that it's the BT deal which is good value, as you got a whole season of European games for the price of a ticket. In fact that is less than the cheapest ticket I've got for the Rugby World Cup.
It's probably an even better deal for BT though :-) All this extra "choice of channels", giving the sports fan the chance to empty even more money out of his wallet. ...

They did it to me too and I also cancelled it.
They definitely did not email me to tell me that they were going to charge for it, I only found out when I got my bill.
I've actually (with great difficulty) opted out of Sport Lite as well as I do not trust them not to start charging for that too without telling me.
This is not about value for money for me, it is about BT being underhand.

I've just found that a free BT Sports channel has appeared on Virgin cable (no programmes yet though) so something will be free - it might be BT Sport Showcase https:/ /recomb u.com/d igital/ article /bt-spo rt-show case-fr ee-cham pions-l eague-f reeview

Yep that's the channel to allow them to show some Champions League games free, as ITV did. And of course gives them the chance to do the hard sell for Sport Europe

“Seems a good deal to me.”
Quite so. If you like watching football, that is. (Though anybody shelling out sixty quid to see a football match must need their bumps felt). If you don’t or if (like me) you think I is a tedious game with an unusually high preponderance of cheats among its participants, it’s not a very good deal at all.
I received an e-Mail and a letter telling me of the changes round about April or May. I rang immediately to cancel BT Sport (which I’d never asked for and never wanted anyway). The “customer advisor” tried to get me to delay my cancellation until nearer the time the charges were to come into effect “in case I changed my mind”. “If I do I’ll come back to you to reinstate it” I said. “Ah but it would be easier if you left it as it was” This was a clearly designed ploy to get me keep the service and probably forget to cancel it later. I got pi55ed off and told the “customer advisor” what I thought. I never heard anything further.
I took out my contract with BT to have a phone line and broadband provided. I did not take it out to have provided a load of second rate rubbish which I didn’t ask for and didn't want charged to my account if I failed to get it touch to cancel it.
