Extraordinary race after the two Mercedes commit hara-kiri on lap 1.

Proper racing on a proper track - and the youngest ever F1 winner as Max Verstappen holds off the two Ferraris in a wonderfully composed race for an 18 year old.

Wow - just Wow

What happened s-d? I was out back putting Dahlias in and thought ow better go watch the start of the GP. I came in on lap 4 and they were .......missing.

Rosberg led Hamilton after the first corner. At turn 4 Hamilton had a good run up the inside of Rosberg ... then ...

either

1. Hamilton rammed Rosberg whilst attempting an impossible move

or

2. Rosberg chopped off Hamilton who was already alongside

They both wound up in the gravel with bits of car missing.

I think the fault was about 80% Rosberg, 20% Hamilton - others may differ.
I agree with your summation SD, mainly Rosbergs fault, perhaps rash of Hamilton to try the overtake there but he was chopped off, no doubt.

Congratulations to young Max, the start of many to come I'm sure.

Perhaps the race was all the better for being without Mercedes?
Think Rosberg and Hamilton need to go for a pint and sort this out once and for all - it's all very handbags at dawn!

Up to a point, smow - but we don't want to get back to the 2014 "team orders say who will win" nonsense - that was dreadful.

I agree shoota - the race was made by the two Mercs being absent - perhaps they should start from the back next time ...
Cheers s-d. I have just seen a replay of it as you are typing. I agree with you Rosberg looks to have not been aware at all. Fiddling with the setting on his Steering Wheel. Funny enough that was 9d in the ST crossword this morning. Jeff Pearce is prescient.
Rosberg was unaccountably on the wrong side of the track..
I think the lesson for Rosberg is to not push a rival onto the grass in the braking zone and then be surprised when he can't brake enough to avoid hitting you.

I think the stewards bottled making a proper decision - and Mercedes are keeping their dirty washing very much in their own laundry bag.

Hamilton was seething quietly, but parrotting the party line; Rosberg looked rather more crestfallen (as if he'd had his bum smacked in private) but had also been told to keep his gob shut.
