I am sitting here wondering the same thing, they all seemed a bit underwhelmed with it. Saw one of the Canadians shrug her shoulders after receiving it.

I like them and would give my right arm for one! Much more fitting of the occasion than a bunch of flowers that will last only a few days.

I thought I heard one of the commentators say it was a stand for the medal, but they might be just as clueless as the rest of us lol.

I think they're better than the laurel wreaths the medalists were given in Athens. Everyone looked a bit ridiculous wearing them.
