apologies for being dull and boring about football.

I know (and have known for years) 3 for a win etc. etc. and have been wondering quite often recently about giving teams one point for each goal scored .

Would it stir things up a bit and make teams play less defensively?

It would be interesting that the losing side ( if they scored any goals ) would get points. Could mean that at the end of the season clubs that have lost a lot of matches could finish higher in the league than clubs that have won a lot of matches.
It really would be interesting.. it seems more of a simple system.

Welcome back Alba.... btw Xx

I think I've been listening to Talksport for too long lol

Some presenters get either very miffed or very excited if ''their'' team won/lost by a 1-0 scoreline

If the team winning by the solitary goal then play the rest of the match defensively, it can't make for an exciting game to watch surely?

That used to be Arsenals game plan all those years ago.

Thanks Arky, my fellow Supernaturalist x
Just out of interest, which league has the least number of teams please?

Might just do a wee exercise tomorrow and go through previous small league and award each team a point based on number of goals scored :-)

I've got my masochist hat on.

I'm not a fan of Arsenal (goobers aren't they? :-) )

I like Man U., Man City, C. Pal and Liverpool.
Don't mind the Villa either (legs it)
They is a hatred of Man United... I've gotten used to it when listening to commentators.
Premier league has the fewest in England with 20.

Too many commentators -both radio and tv - seem to forget to commentate, preferring the sounds of their own voices and their bellies rumbling.

Thanks Ken.
Son is at work tomorrow so I'll use his lappy and play around, leave Mr Alba to watch some fishing thingies
Alba, the introduction way back of 3 points for a score draw was intended to make the game more entertaining. Just done a very quick totting up using your system. Liverpool, currently in first place would now be 2nd with 162 pts, 7 points behind City. Arsenal and Spurs would swap places with 132 and 131 respectively and United (127) would leapfrog Chelsea (123.
Down at the foot of the table, Huddersfield (33), Fulham (52) and Cardiff (61) would still occupy the relegation places. Then, from cardiff upward, come Brighton (65), Newcastle (70) and Southampton (75).

aahh, so Liverpool and City would still be at the top - therefore not much point (sorry) of one point per goal.

Thank you very much for investigating Ken, very good of you xx

Funnily enough, Huddersfield would be in yet another blooming question I've got regarding the tv money that's flooded in, yet teams like Bolton, Huddersfield, Fleetwood (feel sorry for them re. their manager) are in dire straits.
Albeit they are in different leagues.

It's a funny old game.
Alba your analysis will be interesting. Just a point though B is close to N Arsenal are the gooners.
I've heard a suggestion in the past that a score draw should be rewarded better than a no score draw.
the problem with that is that, towards the end of the season teams can engineer a 10-10 draw for example and raise them both out of trouble, for example. I have often advocated that there should be no such thing as a draw, they should do count back on red cards, yellow cards, corners, free kicks etc, bit like a win on points in boxing. though that's not really practical in the thousands of low level games. I guess it's more or less correct as it is.
In my post @ 23:27 last night i should have said "The suggested introduction of 3 points..............................". Just read it back to myself and it looked as if i thought that was already the case:-/
Ken4155's totting up is based on the results of how they are playing at the moment. With the incentive of gaining points per goal the outcome could have been different so the game could be more interesting if this was introduced.
Some teams - The Clarets, for instance - are geared for defence, playing on the counter. If this system were to be introduced and we were playing Man City or Liverpool, to get anything from the game, instead of shutting up shop at the back and making it difficult for the opposition, we would have to 'come out and play'. The result would probably be something like 12-2 to City/Liverpool. But every other team would be doing the same so, at the end of the season, things would very much stay the same, imho. More entertaining for the neutral fans, maybe. But the majority of fans don't care about entertainment as long as their team is winning/doing well. The 'entertainment' is a side dish.
Just for reference; between 2005 and 2018, average football attendances are up by approx 4 and 1/2 K in the Prem and 3K in the championship. League one attendances have risen by about 600 while League 2 attendances have remained static.
