apologies for being dull and boring about football.
I know (and have known for years) 3 for a win etc. etc. and have been wondering quite often recently about giving teams one point for each goal scored .
Would it stir things up a bit and make teams play less defensively?

Just done a very quick totting up using your system. Liverpool, currently in first place would now be 2nd with 162 pts, 7 points behind City. Arsenal and Spurs would swap places with 132 and 131 respectively and United (127) would leapfrog Chelsea (123.
Down at the foot of the table, Huddersfield (33), Fulham (52) and Cardiff (61) would still occupy the relegation places. Then, from cardiff upward, come Brighton (65), Newcastle (70) and Southampton (75).

aahh, so Liverpool and City would still be at the top - therefore not much point (sorry) of one point per goal.
Thank you very much for investigating Ken, very good of you xx
Funnily enough, Huddersfield would be in yet another blooming question I've got regarding the tv money that's flooded in, yet teams like Bolton, Huddersfield, Fleetwood (feel sorry for them re. their manager) are in dire straits.
Albeit they are in different leagues.
It's a funny old game.

the problem with that is that, towards the end of the season teams can engineer a 10-10 draw for example and raise them both out of trouble, for example. I have often advocated that there should be no such thing as a draw, they should do count back on red cards, yellow cards, corners, free kicks etc, bit like a win on points in boxing. though that's not really practical in the thousands of low level games. I guess it's more or less correct as it is.
Some teams - The Clarets, for instance - are geared for defence, playing on the counter. If this system were to be introduced and we were playing Man City or Liverpool, to get anything from the game, instead of shutting up shop at the back and making it difficult for the opposition, we would have to 'come out and play'. The result would probably be something like 12-2 to City/Liverpool. But every other team would be doing the same so, at the end of the season, things would very much stay the same, imho. More entertaining for the neutral fans, maybe. But the majority of fans don't care about entertainment as long as their team is winning/doing well. The 'entertainment' is a side dish.
Just for reference; between 2005 and 2018, average football attendances are up by approx 4 and 1/2 K in the Prem and 3K in the championship. League one attendances have risen by about 600 while League 2 attendances have remained static.
