So one sided, not even a match and lasted less than an hour.
Congratulations to Halep but how can these women command the same salary as men?

Stand by for NJ's now customary annual rant :-) //Anyway, opinion polls say that Womens tennis is FAR more popular with TV viewers than 'Mens' .// Need some evidence, Eddie. In any case, the easiest way to deal with that is to stage the two events at different times. Then see how many bums on seats you get for each and how much the TV companies are willing to shell...

An awful lot of supposes there JIm.

You seem to think, like many other people, that the present sydtem of remuneration is fair and i don't.
Question Author
Ich....I know! I know! i just wanted to know if one think'e it is fair.
It seems to be the one sport that women don't seem keen to compete on the same terms as men ,i.e women fought long and hard to be able to run marathons, to do compete over 2000 metres in international rowing competitions rather than 1000, to play football for 90 minutes rather than the 80 minutes FIFA thought they should.
They are rewarded for being the best at what they do not by how long it takes to do it.
No Jim that is not what I meant at all. Men play the best of five and women the best of three. So it's not equal.
Question Author
Ich...clearly. I just wondered if the same remuneration for the winners, should be the same.
"An awful lot of supposes there Jim."

Just thinking it through.
Mrs retro ( birthday girl) informs me that Women’s Tennis more interesting as Men just ‘grunt and shunt’ powerful aces across court whereas women are scurrying around all over the court returning long volleys and working up a lather. Who am I to argue with her.? She played enough Tennis with younger son who was junior champion standard and won a prestigious Tennis scholarship.
"best of five"

Yes, but that doesn't mean that every men's match is five sets long! The number of sets argument is nonsense.
Question Author
Jim...I have got your message...don't keep repeating yourself.
Yes as you probably worked out by now they should certainly get the same.
How on earth is it not “fair”?!
Are Roger Federer and co going hungry because the top ladies get a bit of extra money ??
But Jim,the women have no potential to go to five sets which is the point. Women spend an awful lot of time arguing for equal pay for equal work, so compete on the same terms if you want the same money.
"the top ladies get a bit of extra money?"

They are not getting "a bit of extra money" - they are getting the same money. That's the important thing.
Retro, forgive the interruption, does Mrs Retro share her birthday with me (today)?
The number of spectators for both finals being the same (seats sold out) it only seems fair that the prize money should be the same.
It is the same Jim.
I was satirising the “it isn’t fair” argument.
I understand tho reject the “equal pay for equal length of sets” argument but the “unfairness” thing I don’t get at all
Yes. Today. Happy birthday Danny
Thanks Retro, my best wishes to your better half.
They may have the same number of spectators but tickets for tomorrow are more expensive than those for today.
Oh! I didn't know that.
