2019 British Open Golf

Begins tomorrow in Portrush, Northern Ireland. I will be doing a few e.w. bets which i'll probably decide upon after work, but 2 players stand out as possible outright winner of the tournament and not only on form.
Brooks Koepka is a must for any shortlist; he has won 4 of his last 9 major tournaments and finished 2nd in the others. His caddie, Rickie Elliott, hails from Portrush and played all his early golf there.
Irishman Rory McIlroy is also very familiar with the course and once shot a record 61 there when just 16 years of age. He has been in great form in 2019, finishing top ten in 11 of his 14 PGA tour events, winning 2, and top five in the last 3 British Opens. He won this tournament back in 2014.
As i said, very difficult to split the two so my first bet will be;

The fact that Royal Portrush is being used for the first time in about a million years makes selections extremely tricky. I do believe one of the two mentioned above will win the Claret Jug but i am more hopeful than confident about the following bets;

What on earth happened to Rory, Tiger and Francesco Molinari yesterday, they will all be lucky to make the cut.

If I was going to bet, I would have had Robert MacIntyre, Eddie Pepperell or Tommy Fleetwood. How are they doing lol ;)?

Paigntonian; when i put my selections on here, the money is already down. So the £5 on both Koepka and McIlroy top 5 finish is lost - as is the free bet.
My 3 each way selections have all made the cut, my best chance being Justin Rose who sits just 2 strokes off the lead.
McIlroy showed today just what he is capable of but it was always going to be a massive ask for him to make the cut. As it is, he only just missed out.
Due to work, i haven't really seen too much live golf so far and, with the weather apparently about to turn a tad nasty, i'll keep my money in my pocket until the end of round 3 before placing any more bets - with one eye on Lee Westwood who has had 2 solid rounds of golf.

Going back to McIlroy; in the first round he looked totally as though he didn't want to be there. Subdued wasn't the word. No enthusiasm, poor body language, hardly seemed to have any committment. He gave me the impression that he didn't even want to tee off. Was there an issue of some kind, I wonder?

Pleased with myself for resisting the urge to have a punt on Lee Westwood. The guy's game went to pot (as opposed to putt) yesterday. One player who has improved round by round is Rickie Fowler (70-69-66) and he starts the final day on 8 under - 8 behind the leader, 4 behind 2nd placed Tommy Fleetwood but only 2 behind 3rd placed JB Holmes who is going the other way (66-68-69). Betting is available without the two leaders so i've had a dip (£5) on Fowler @ 7/1.

Looks as if i found Royal Portrush as hard to fathom out as my selections did. Congrats to Shane Lowry, an Irishman, but, perhaps for some, from the wrong side of the border.

Sorry Ken. Westwood gave me my bet back and a bit of profit with a place at 125/1. I only did him because his odds went daft when he announced that his lady would be his caddie. If she could have read the greens he may have well won it. Hopeless with the putter.
