//"Boxers know the risks involved". Car drivers know the risks involved driving without a seatbelt on but it's still not allowed// Bad analogy. Car drivers run the risk of hurting others, boxers will only ever hurt each other.
Maybe so, steg, but I don't think tradition is ever an excuse once we know better. I am not saying it should be banned, necessarily- just that it can't be compared to other sports or activities that have incidental risks, when it is the entire aim of boxing. It doesn't compare with most other sports.
/// What I will say in support of the sport, is that it's taken many young people off the streets and out of gangs etc. If it wasn't for boxing, how many of these guys would've been involved in knife or gun crime? In that sense, boxing has saved countless more lives than it's cost. ///
I disagree it just encourages even more violence towards one's fellow man. Perhaps to bring things up to date perhaps they should introduce knife fighting contests, or let's go the full hog and bring back gladiatorial contests.
I don't understand the mentality behind boxing. I could not hurt another person unless I was under threat. How can they get in a ring against someone they probably like and respect...and then try and knock them out. I don't get it.
