Wimbledon is the only sports event I know of, where a player gets a round of applause for having used the toilet. It's true, though isn't it? Players asks umpire for toilet break. Umpire agrees. Player goes off, and when he/she comes back on they get a round of applause! Ipso fatso!

Anyway, I just wish the Canadian born "British" player, with a Romanian father and Chinese mother, all the best in the next round. She's a bright, talented little thing isn't she, "our" Emma?

10C; I'm just surprised the female players find it easy to go to the loo on their own. It's always been my experience that they go in pairs :-J

Emma Raducanu has lived in England since she was two. I'm happy to count her as British, she has never known anywhere else.

She is no Zola Budd.
the constant clapping while waiting for the hawkeye result becomes tedious after a few hours . . .

i hope she does well, great play for one so young.
Her parents could have become citizens
I’d never heard of until yesterday, I hope she does well, and she can nip to the toilet if she needs a conference boost.
*confidence, I simply blame the phone not my head

It’s the slow hand clapping at every turn that gets me.

“British” ?
Shame on you

What have I said now? Some people need to lighten up.
a bit too high brow for me.
With regard to the applause when tennis players take a "bathroom break" I think it's just bit of courtesy and acknowledgement to the player. It's not a team sport and it must be a pretty lonely place out there. And yes - Good Luck Emma - and with your A level results too.
That Wimbledon crowd would applaud a dog turd if it rolled onto the court.
As it happens, I'm going to Wimbledon next week - but I'll reserve my applause for when it's warranted.
It’s just politeness. We Brits are renowned for it, except when we’re not ;)
Spot the man who doesn't clap, cheer and wave his arms....^

I've always had the impression that Wimbledon is very much an inclusive thing. If one does it, everyone has to do it. Can't be seen not joining in!
What’s annoying is when the umpire asks people not to cheer during play or to use flash photography. Everyone claps as if to say ‘I would never do that. Who are these savages?’
