I would imagine that without the sponsorship from the lottery, many of our athletes would have struggled to be in Tokyo. They therefore have every reason to be thankful.

The National Lottery helps to fund athletics, with the percentage of Lottery revenue given to sport in general defined in legislation but it's not a sponsor.

Beth Shriever didn't get any funding from UK Sport at all, and only some from the cycling body, so she had to crowdfund. She got a gold but I imagine her list of supporters was too long to mention
