Congratulations to Team GB on equalling our 2012 result with 65 medals overall. 22 gold 21 silver and 22 bronze, 4th in the medal tables. Really enjoyed watching some of the new sports involved.

Rowing didn't fare too well, 1 silver 1bronze - £24 million funding
Yes, they did very well. Congratulations to Team GB :o)
I wrongly believed athletics got the lion's share of the funding but it is joined by cycling, rowing and sailing, according to this;

Doesn't alter my earlier sentiments, though. Our athletes have still underperformed.

Sorry Ken crossed posts
I strongly disagree: there were unfortunate injuries to most of the favourites for gold (there weren't that many to start with). Take those out of the mix and it was more or less what was expected from not the strongest squad ever. Nevertheless there were medals at long last for Holly Bradshaw and Laura Muir and Josh Kerr arrived as a star.
Other than that it was the usual case of some athletes performing above expectations and others below. Rowing was also a disappointment.
... and Keely Hodgkinson, not to leave her out

Makes interesting reading, Margo. I read some time ago that funding is partly based on previous podium finishes so it will be interesting to see the breakdown for the next Olympics.
I'd be interested to know how many of the African athletes running for non-African countries had been "signed up" Qatar-style by their national federations. There certainly seemed to be more than ever ...
Ich, rowing was a major disappointment.

Congratulations to all who took part.
Great work, they all deserved their medals, Gold, Silver * Bronze.
and NO acting like spoilt brats for getting silver and bronze
unlike the world cup runner ups who pulled the medals off
~ that was disgraceful ~ bad sportsmanship.
Surprised that the modern pentathlon funds are being cut by 20% given that we won both golds?
The Sky link MARGO posted is from last year so it's not based on the results from this year's Olympics.
Point taken, you always get a prat somewhere along the line.
Must admit not a boxing fan so I did not see that.
//Congratulations to Team GB//

Were there no competitors from Norther Ireland, then? I notice that even the official Olympic site mentions "Great Britain." Why not the United Kingdom?

It's interesting that of all our gold medalists, only the two boxers competed in events where the individuals remain in contact with the ground throughout the competition.
Well done to all our participants but I reserve my admiration for the people of Japan who put the games on in what can only be described as awkward conditions. Well done Japan, the rest of the World owes you its gratitude for your massive effort.
