It's the Winter Olympics ... Yaaaa ... (fizzles out)

But it's in China. And maybe we shouldn't be there (heartbreaking for the athletes, I know).

Two weeks, once again glorifying that ghastly, abusive regime. Yeah sure, a few "token" protests ... but not really.

Maybe the sporting world should refuse to go to China. And Qatar, come to think of it.

And yet ... I LOVE the Winter Olympics SO MUCH.

I feel conflicted.

It’ll take a miracle, they’ve been dire all season

Hi, LB ...

Newcastle will be okay. They have a good Defence now ... coz they've just taken Dan Burn off us.

I know, he was always a Magpie at heart.
I hope so ( and the Mackems stay down) haha
Took our main man, too, Chris Wood. Hope his goal drought continues. Also hope that if we go down, so do the Toon.
Mind you, worse case scenario is that we go down and Bar Steward Rovers swap places. I've already bought a decent length of rope and am currently looking for a secluded, but stout, tree.

Hang on ... the Mackems are ... ??
I also love the Olympics, both Winter and Summer, and will be watching.
Sunderland JJ

This is all becoming a bit "whoosh"

(over my head)

Who do we want to stay down? Or up?
Question Author
Sunderland? What league are they in ??
It’s a bit like Celtic and Rangers here in the toon ( without the bigotry)
Newcastle and Sunderland are sworn enemies, they were in the Premier league but have dropped to division 1 but they’re playing well and might get into the play offs
Then it’ll be the Championship for them

Oh, I loved League One. Withdean, on a Saturday afternoon. About a thousand of us, with a soggy burger, a photocopied fanzine (the Seagull Love Review), and a plastic cup of Sauv Blanc. Standing in G Block. You could buy a match ticket during the week, at the old supporters shop on Queens Road.

Sorry, what? Drifted off on a nostalgia trip there.
I remember your tales of smuggling alcohol into football grounds, JJ :-)

LOL, Ken ...

I'm not gonna say it still happens. But ...

:-)
Good to see you posting, JJ. I feel the same but like you I love the Winter Olympics.
Welcome back JJ. I live the Winter Olympics and especially excited about the new mixed events. I feel conflicted too and cross with the committees who select the host countries but for the sake of the athletes, we have to support and celebrate the games where ever they are. It’s going to be fab-u-lous.

Hi, Gness

Maydup, yeah, I agree.

Ideal scenario ... they do the Games, get their medals, then go home, and nobody turns up for the closing ceremony.
I don't think there will be many at the closing ceremony anyway, what with the Covid restrictions. The athletes will go home asap and we can all look forward to doing it all again in the more suitable Italy 2026!
