For a traditional Yorker to be effective, a batsman needs to be standing in the sort of position that most of us were taught at school, with his feet in line with, or immediately adjacent to, the line of the stumps. Many batsmen now stand well outside the line of the stumps, making the Yorker less effective. However, in limited overs cricket, bowling a ball of a Yorker length
outside the line of the stumps is now a useful tactic, as it can result in a dot ball. Such a delivery has become known as a 'wide Yorker':
