Is that the traditional light blue or actually pale turquoise that the winning team are wearing?

You stopped watching because Clare Balding was presenting?
better than refusing to watch because Clare Presenting is balding.
Oxford won.
Cambridge swept the board.
My dad used to take me to see the start of the boat race most years. It was a big event back then. Dad and I supported Oxford and mum Cambridge. I don't know if it applies these days, there were quite large crowds on the river bank. The days when south west London was a lovely place to live.

Just remember that we used to wear dark or light blue ribbon rosettes to school the week before.

I don't dislike Clare Balding.
Clare Balding won....Alice in the reserve boat.
I want to know why the same two teams get into the final every year.
No other universities care.
one of my bosses was in that once. He sank.
Just him?
The Boat Race? The biggest sporting non-event of the year for upper class, toffee-nosed showboats. I don't know why the BBC waste money on it.
It's a tradition.
Why does the umpire have a white flag?
To warn an errant crew that they are (e.g.) taking their opponents ground. It's a bit strange because the person steering the boat is the cox and he has his back to the umpire. More useful for races involving coxless boats.
Watching the boat race on TV was a big deal when I was growing up. So sad that we have kowtowed to those with views like 10CS, slowly all our traditions are being diminished by the low life.
NJ quite so....thanks.
Clarion is hardly low life!
Agree Prudie. My youngest son and I used to go to Hammersmith Bridge most years to watch it go under. Lots of other people there.
ah, Hammersmith Bridge is another tradition that's no longer working...
