Loren James should be sent home in disgrace for stomping on that Nigerian girl.
If the had been a white girl there would have been more crowd reaction and that person would probably be given their ticket home. No excuses for a professional player to vent their frustrations for her teams poor play.

Having now seen the incident on the BBC site, I think being sent home would be excessive. The yellow card was changed to red and that was the correct decision. But it hardly looked a viscious stamp on the victim's rear, just a stupid lash out by James. IMO the right decision has been made, and I'm sure the coach/manager would have had some words back in the changing room too.

I don't believe fouls are graded on some sort of 'severity' system, nor should they be.

You fouled a player, but it wasn't actually a very bad foul ....

That's a can of worms waiting to be opened as everyone and his wife debates what 'serious' means.

A foul is a foul - professional footballers have a responsibility to play by the rules, and guff from the manager about the player being 'young', 'inexperienced' and 'tired' do not cut it.

Fouls may not be graded (although they are as the ref may give a red or a yellow card) but getting sent home is presumably a team manager decision, and they can take into consideration whatever they think appropriate.

Somehow I doubt it.

This apparent urge to mitigate, minimise, and generally gloss over a professional player breaking rules, is simply not acceptable.

When we start grading the level of pain and suffering, or intent, or any other nonsense you want to factor in, like manager has - tiredness, emotion, age, inexperience, and so on and so on ...

It becomes farcical.

A foul is a foul, and a nasty blatant inexcusable foul should be met with appropriate discipline and a message - if you can't control yoursefd, you don't play for the national team.
