I've seen John Spencer and Jackie Rae in exhibitions a few times and if you get a chance to see one, it's well worth it. Of course both of those players are long gone, but the exhibitions are really fun things.
John Virgo is the same age as me and I saw him play in the Manchester Catholic League for a club in Salford called KSC, Knights of St Columba. I was present when he made the world record break for an amateur, aged 18, back in the sixties. He scored 121, which was a record then, but long since been beaten. His shows are very funny. And skilfull too.
Gets asked every year (usually by me):
What is the minimum score that a player can achieve in order to win a frame?
This assumes that all balls are eventually potted (i.e. a player does not forfeit the frame). Warning: the answer involves a highly theoretical event which is absolutely never likely to happen in practice.
judge: Just off the top without really delving into it. 14-13. Player A pots all 15 reds at once but goes in off so player B gets 4 so now it's 0-4, they then share the colours so player a gets yellow, pink and black (15). Player B gets green brown and blue (12) so the final result is 15-16 to player B.
